Hello colleagues, I just came into a very strange thing. Never heard of this before and never happened to me before.

I just found out while processing that out of 721 CRAW files from my Canon R5, 355 files show and open at 17.3 MP. The rest open as expected at 44.8 MP.

I went many times through the process and it is the same every time. I'd would load again the files to the computer but unfortunateley I formatted the card a few days ago.

Suffice to say, the 44.8 MP open in PS at 8192X5464 pixels, while the 17.3 MP files open at 5088X3392 pixels. I wonder and wonder what happenned here.

Is it a camera malfunction?

Is it the Sd card?

Is it the ACR?

I have PS 26.6.0 installed in an iMac with Mac OS 15.4.1

Camera history: R5 converted to full spectrum. Filter-insert Kolari adapter working with various EF lenses.

On this shoot, I was using altenatively a 16-35 Ef zoom and a 70-200 Ef telezoom. I have used this combination before many times without issues.

By going through the files, I found out that the first file to come as a 17.3MP was after I just installed the 70-200 f4. After a dozen files later I moved back to the 16-35, but the files still came as 17.3MP. After more than hundred files working with the 16-35, suddenly I have again the 44.8MP size.

Is the adapter?

I'd love to know your thoughts about this issue.

Very worry for now. Thanks for reading this far.

Best, Edu

With that MP count it sounds like the camera was shooting in Crop Mode. Possible?

Right R2. It was Crop Mode.

I don't know how this happened. I feel so stupid.

It was pilot error. hehe

Somehow, in the middle of changing lenses, I must have changed to Crop Mode (but how?). It's the reason. I just shot in Crop Mode and the file came as 17.3 MP.

It was insanely sunny and hot. I want to blame the weather. It was around 1pm.

No, just kidding. My sole mistake for sure.

Anyway, I'm relieved somehow and this should never happen again.

Thanks for your prompt response R2 and Dustman.

Best to you all.

If you have a RF-S or adapted EF-S lens, it will automatically happen every time with that lens.

Glad it was something simple!

Maybe check to see if you have a button or dial programmed for "Aspect Ratio." I have my SET button programmed for this. Quick and easy, but I've never inadvertently had it change.

Happy shooting!
