And the release date is ...

My guesses:

Flagship model: $ 1800-2000

High amateur model: $ 1000-1200
Just change the $ sign to a £ sign and you'll get the UK pricing :-(.

Cheers,
Daniel.

Furthermore he said that the content of this announcement would
come as quite a surprise and that the various guesses circulated in
the various internet fora would be quite off the mark.
But of course his credibility remains dubious.

Carsten
I find that hard to believe, since every single conceivable spec has been guessed at this point. :)

Yes ... the anonymous poster who begins his post with

"Just trust me!" and claims we will "know more" on June 4 - which probably is true (taking into consideration the time span until then).

But when it comes to the info value I bet my money with the next poster: "Nun mal raus mit der Sprache, hat der 4.6. einen realen Hintergrund - ich meine nicht etwa Deinen Geburtstag - oder veräppelst Du uns nur?"

Happy Birthday!

Well, let's see...

My guess is they are going to announce two new cameras -
(1) an aps-c FILM-camera and
(2) a digital medium format camera with a newly developed Canon sensor

I won't bet any money on this, though :)

Carsten

You are probably right...but let's hope you're not ;)

If I remember correctly they did announce the A100 in June as well and it hit the stores in August, maybe they'll repeat that pattern.

Carsten

Nothing assuming that it's not paper launched. :)

Though it will be paper launched. A few copies given to reviewers with time to drum up buzz soon after the release/launch date. Then after magazines have had it in their lab for a month or two and the articles about it are out, then it will start showing up in stores.

Good luck and good light.

I stand corrected. Although I do not remember thew canon MF camera, I do remember the APS-c film camera prediction. :)

Did I mention that the film camera also records video (BETAmax of course)?

I will buy ONLY if all this is true AND the VCR records longer than than 90 minutes in SP mode!

And it better cost less than $750. Otherwise, it will be DOA. :)

Flagship model: $ 1800-2000

High amateur model: $ 1000-1200
That unfortunately sounds like wishful thinking to me. I don't see
how the high amateur model would be priced the same as the A100 was
at release.

I'd think:

High Amateur: $1700-$1900
I think this model will target more the D80/K10D/30D crowd, so MSRP $1200-$1400 with a street price that will settle out around $900-$1000.
Flagship: $2700-$3000
This is my guess, but maybe a couple hundred lower. ($2400-$2700)

I think he wants me to wait "just in case" any new lenses are announced when they announce the cameras.
For what it's worth, I went down the street to my local dealer to
talk about getting the Zeiss 135 and he said I should wait. When I
asked why, he said that Sony will be releasing the "first" of the
new dslr's in June.
I don't understand the delaer's rationale. The Zeiss 135mm/1.8
covers (at least) a 43.3mm image circle. The only reason not to buy
one (other than not being able to afford one :-) is if Sony were
bringing out a camera with an even larger sensor. So the
implication of the dealer is that Sony will now be entering the
medium format market and we should wait for lenses which have an
image circle cover 56mm by 56mm???? :-)

Cheers,
Daniel.
