10D

Is it better to buy local?
Makes me wonder about production. I know a lot of places have them
but this vendor hasn't had a replacement in a while.
Be comforted by the fact that you can run some very simple focus
tests when you buy your 10D. If it doesn't focus well, EXCHANGE
the camera for another one. Its simple. Its easy. Its fast.

The chance of getting two lemons in a row is very very small. And,
if you do, exchange it again.

You have nothing to fear but fear itself

Buy yourself the 10D. You will be happy.
OK, I've ordered a 10D, however, the more I read about soft focus
problems the colder my feet get. I currently have a G3 and am
happy with it....

2 buy or not 2 buy a 10D.... Wait until the focus problem is
fixed.... Is the focus problems mostly user issues????

I made a simple post wit a couple of pics about how great my new 10D is, and how I had no focus problems. The naysayers came out of the woodworks to tell me I was wrong.

Get the camera and try it. I'm positive there are some bad ones out there, but they are the ones that are going to find this forum to tell the world about their problems. The people who have the good ones usually have no need to come here to air their views, so we end up with skewed data on how many are bad.

Not one shred of evidence supports the notion that life is
serious.

Generally speaking, there are two sorts of problems people can have with any piece of equipment. Those problems that are part of the design, and those that aren't.

For example, the D60 could only focus down to +1ev, and even at this light level it would take 2-3 seconds to focus. For some people, this is an issue, for others it isn't. But its "baked" into the design, and there's nothing you can do about it. If you don't like it, don't buy it.

The other sort of problem is what I'll generally label "quality control" issues. These may create more "heat" on the website, but quite frankly these should be "much less" of an issue, since you can simply exchange the "defective" camera for another.
A few vocal users have had problems, but most are delighted with
the camera. Go for it. You'll like it.

Nice pic. What f/stop and focal length did you use?

I have the G3 and the 10D. And you will love to focus with the 10D after using your G3 before. It's so much quicker and better than your G3.

I agree with you about those two problems, but you did leave off one very important one in this issue - user error.

I'm sure it accounts for a some of the 10D problems encountered.

No, I'm not saying there aren't some faulty cameras out there, but I have no doubt that in some cases those that are labelled hardware problems are actually user problems. The numbers/percentages? I have no idea, nor does anyone here.

Did you focus on the eye? It seems slightly back-focused if so, insofar as one can tell at that resolution.

Cheers,
Pete
... I'd probably feel the same way as you if I'd read all these
negative posts before I bought my pair of 10Ds. It's a fact that
you're going to hear about the bad ones a lot more prominently than
the good ones but I do see a trend of people starting to post about
their satisfaction with the 10D. I really must say that this is one
of the best cameras I've owned and I'm enjoying mine. I bought
another one for my wife as a result of my happy experience with
mine and she's extremely happy with hers as well. It's a much
sought-after camera and for good reason. Good luck with your
decision.

Yeah, my 10D works just fine. Too bad yours didn't... that is if you REALLY bought one in the first place. Loved your fabricated story. ;-)
