OK, I've ordered a 10D, however, the more I read about soft focus problems the colder my feet get. I currently have a G3 and am happy with it....

2 buy or not 2 buy a 10D.... Wait until the focus problem is fixed.... Is the focus problems mostly user issues????

you read too much...

what focus problem should be fixed ?

there are NO problems with these camera's else they would not be sold as hotcakes, now would they ?

Just don't go put up a ruler the first day you have this fine camera in your hands. Go out and shoot.

Stick with your G3 since you're happy with it....... and save yourself the torture of being paranoid............

You'll love it. I kept my G2 also for a carry around camera. Now save x-tra money for all the "toys" you'll want for your 10D.

Hey Neil - Long time no see!!

Got my 10D last week, and have been shooting up a storm.

I think the 'soft focus' issue is a bit over rated.. it's also so easy
to hit the zoom button on the PC software that you get so
close into the picture that everything becomes fuzzy! Never
would have used a microscope on a slide or print.

You can play with the sharpness control (and others), and
it will have an effect on the picture as well.

Have fun playing!

Tim (still at M)!

Amazing how a very small percentage of users with focus problems can make some people think it is an epidemic affecting most most of the population. As far as any fix the issue is only with a small percentage of units, so thee probably is no "fix" Afterall I doubt no factories have 100% yield and screening. If your happy with the G3 then why are you even looking? Keep it another year if a few negative posts scare you off, this time next year the 10D will be history and a new model will have taken it's place with even more options and better performance and 20% cheaper too I bet. Of course there will still be issues as with any camera.

Good luck

I've had mine since May 23rd. Two and a half weeks of fun. For the first week I only had one lens, my 70-200 2.8L IS. Then my 24-70 2.8L arrived and then more fun.

My first shots were a disappointment, but then I realized I was used to a P&S for the past couple of years. With the 10D I had to start thinking about photography again and how this stuff actually works, but man is it rewarding!

Take a look at my 10D Gallery and tell me if you think I have a focus problem. I sure don't think so.

Ignore the people calling you brainwashed. You have concerns. They are justified.

Be comforted by the fact that you can run some very simple focus tests when you buy your 10D. If it doesn't focus well, EXCHANGE the camera for another one. Its simple. Its easy. Its fast.

The chance of getting two lemons in a row is very very small. And, if you do, exchange it again.

You have nothing to fear but fear itself

Buy yourself the 10D. You will be happy.

Good advice, however, there is a hole burning in my pocket, and I like long shots....

Thanks

I sent one of mine back for dead pixel problems (focus was good) and I still have not received a new one.

Makes me wonder about production. I know a lot of places have them but this vendor hasn't had a replacement in a while.

John,

No I didn't - it was mostly sarcasm. But when Neil gets his new camera and has "time" with it, like most of the rest of us he will begin to understand why so many people are getting unexpected results. I think you really have to "learn" this camera, it's a big gorilla! JLC

... I'd probably feel the same way as you if I'd read all these negative posts before I bought my pair of 10Ds. It's a fact that you're going to hear about the bad ones a lot more prominently than the good ones but I do see a trend of people starting to post about their satisfaction with the 10D. I really must say that this is one of the best cameras I've owned and I'm enjoying mine. I bought another one for my wife as a result of my happy experience with mine and she's extremely happy with hers as well. It's a much sought-after camera and for good reason. Good luck with your decision.

My advise ,If you are happy with your G3 then stick with it and don't read too much message in this forum about 10D focus problem.I am a happy 10D user from the 1st day I got it.After all your desision to stick with the G3 with make one more person less waiting in line.

A few vocal users have had problems, but most are delighted with the camera. Go for it. You'll like it.

In fact, to back up what Juli said, why not just read all the opinions here: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/read_opinions.asp?prodkey=canon_eos10d

As near as I can see it rates higher than most cameras, including the D100, as far as customer satisfaction goes. See http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/read_opinions.asp?prodkey=nikon_d100 for the user opinions on the D100.

I'm not denying that some may have had problems with the 10D, but it looks like nearly as many have had problems with the D100. Hardly surprising really given that DSLRs are complex equipment that will lead to both user errors AND occasional manufacturing errors.
