  • Possible to use focus stacking photography with "M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 40-150mm F4.0 PRO".
  • Improved precision of focus when using single-focal-length lenses.
M3 done...took 5 min...no problem

X done...took 10 min

How peculiar... "Improved precision of focus when using single focal length lenses". What could have brought this on?
Not much use to those who splashed out on the 150-400.

Whilst it seems a modest upgrade, it is impressive that have included the EM-1 mkii - a five year old model - in the line-up. I had more or less given up on the idea that improvements would be made - does this auger well for the future of the OM-1?

Sadly, not a feature 'update' though obviously adding usage of newer lenses is important on previous/older models.

As it stands I see no benefit in updating this time.

NB as at 1:30pm 28th Feb UK time the EU website does not yet show these newest FW updates..............I surmise they have yet to propagate across all mirror sites as needed?

PS has anyone yet attached their camera(s) and used OM Workspace to check the firmware & update it yet???

After I update, I will try to get time to check my 300mm f4 to see if either SAF has improved or if the focus variability is reduced for both CAF and SAF. At this time my internet is unstable so I will wait to update.

I think it is a little strange to just be single focal length lenses that would be affected. There is a difference in zoom lenses in that the focus steps would be different for the same distance at different focal lengths. However, I would think that any change for single focal length lenses would have to be specific for each lens.

SAF focus could be more precise, if they changed the focus algorithm to reduce the area around the focus point (it is much larger for SAF than CAF), but why would it not also improve zoom lens focus precision with a single focus point. The fact that cameras without PDAF are included make me think it probably is SAF focus that is changed.

I have connected my E-M1 MkIII to OI.Share over WiFi on my smartphone and it shows v1.5 firmware available size 104Mb. This is in the UK over 4G. I haven’t updated it, just wanted to check.

Thanks for the heads up. I updated my E-M5iii via OM Workspace without a hitch, took about 5 minutes. I haven't tried to determine if it improved the AF with the 300 Pro or the 60mm macro, not sure I could tell anyway.

Interesting, alright. Do I recall correctly S-AF uses CDAF? Perhaps they improved S-AF on the new camera and are back-upgrading earlier models?

Will install and see what's what.

Cheers,

Rick

On further review, nope.

Three tries and after the full install it freezes here. Luckily the camera isn't bricked and is still back at FW 1.2, because somebody has not installed all those interim updates.

Fooey

ETA Same outcome with an E-M1ii. Need to try a different PC. Have never had this issue with dozens of prior updates.

Equivalence and diffraction-free since 2009.
You can be too; ask about our 12-step program.

I got the same message on my EM1 X the first time I tried, and the a battery empty screen came up on the camera.

I had two batteries in the camera both at 60-61% at the time.

I replaced these two batteries with two at 100% and the update then went through no problems. I was worried for a while as the camera obviously had to be shut down to change the batteries out. The update process was at the downloaded but not started on the upload to the camera stage. I am thinking there might be some kind of failsafe installed in the update program that checks battery level before you can get to the stage where the camera would get bricked?

I have done updates in the past not being at 100% and not had this happen before.

Perhaps the new update process is much more sensitive to battery level?

Something to check anyway....

(Using my old reliable windows 7 machine and not the latest version of Workspace, but it has the latest camera updater I believe)

Thanks Gary,

Door #3 was the cable and I've now updated an M1ii and M1iii. Don't see any difference in prime lens S-AF response, but now I can focus-bracket with a 150-400, should one show up at my front door. :-)

Cheers,

Rick

Did the update dump your settings? I had to build an Excel file with my settings for one of the pervious updates because it reset my camera to factory. Think I will run the update tonight regardless; it will just take me more time if I have to setup my camera again.

I'm still waiting for mine to magically materialize on my front porch as well...

Updated my OM-D E-M1 Mark2.

No problems, but..............

Update is labeled as Version 3.4.

Camera Body now reads version 3.6.

Either the website re version # is wrong or the camera?

Peter in Canada.
