How does this lens compare at 24mm to the EF 24mm f/2.8 IS USM?

I currently own a 6D and the EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM. I am pretty happy for the results in my budget. However, I am a backpacker, and this rig is a bit much to carry (although, I've done it a few times.

I am wondering how this lens might compare to the EF 24mm f/2.8 IS USM? While not an L lens, it is a prime and I have a hunch it might lend to similar IQ at 24mm. Faster is a bonus. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

I owned the 24-105 for a good few years and currently own the 24 f/2.8 IS. They are both nice lenses - the f/2.8 IS is not super sharp in the corners wide open (albeit I find it is only the extreme corners which are a real problem - as a 26mm angle of view lens cropped it is good even at f/2.8. It also vignettes a lot at f/2.8 but by f/4 I think less than the zoom does. At f/5.6 it is sharp across the entire frame even on a 5DSR.

Check out Christopher Frost's Youtube video on what I think was a 6D. It's a good and accurate review IMHO.

Some time ago I had a search for a smaller size lens and have made a quick comparision 24-105 f/4 L IS and EF 24 mm non IS. Camera at this time was 6D. My conclusion was to not go for 24 mm. The IQ was about the same, but color and IS worked out better in favor of the zoom.

I can't comment on the EF 24mm, but my EF 35mm f2 IS is certainly sharper than my EF 24-105L ii at 35mm (I used to have the original 24-105L, and the Mark ii is maybe marginally better IQ - not much in it).

In general a prime will sharper than a zoom, especially a walk-around zoom (even a good one).
