Mine would have to be

Peter Lik - First time I saw some of his work I would swear he Photoshoped everything. But he doesn't use any editing software.

Andy Goldsworthy - Sculptor/photographer Love his work

Where did you read Lik doesn't edit ?!

If not, why is the same moon used in two of his pics?

Better yet... Why are the clouds behind the moon? ;)

I have many faves, too many to list here, but here are several that go under most people's radar:

Paul Outerbridge, Eliot Porter, Charles Sheeler (mostly a painter, but good to see the back-and-forth), Rauschenberg (quite good! worth a look, but hard to isolate the photos...), Julia Margaret Cameron for a start.

My favorite photographers?

Masahisa Fukase- The series of photographs known as Karasu (Ravens) created by this troubled man in a depressed time of his life are to me the most soul stirring and powerful group of photographic images ever made. They detail human longing and loss thru stark images of dark birds. Hands down my favorite. Ever. Period. If you ever get a chance to purchase The Solitude of Ravens then do so.

Alvin Langdon Coburn- Master photographer, incredible pictorialist. Much of his work reaches an artistic pinnacle I can only aspire to. One of my favorite photographs ever is Scene at Wapping shot by Alvin sometime in the early 1900's.

Edward Steichen- This mans work is firmly established in photographic history. He was an undisputed master of his craft.

Ralph Eugene Meatyard

Diane Arbus

Alfred Stieglitz

And for some contemporary artists, because not all good photography is history...

Sumyko https://www.flickr.com/photos/fibbapalyingart/

Even Tryggstrand Impressive landscape photographer in Iceland, Faroe Islands, Norway https://www.instagram.com/eventyr/

And as for Peter Lik....yeah. If you dont believe he edits his photos then I have some lake front property on the moon I would like to sell you for bitcoin.

Yeah, sure...and neither does Steve McCurry.

I love Goldsworthy's work, but for him photography is completely secondary and documentary. I don't think of him as a photographer at all.

For me, naming "favorite" photographers is too much like designating favorite children. I just can't bring myself to doing it.

Most of the "I have nothing to shoot" threads wouldn't be here if those people knew about William Eggleston.

I know, right?

A Google search of "Peter Lik Photoshop" provides a bunch of fun reading.

Apparently Lik likes to claim things that aren't very close to the truth. Not sure anyone ever believed that one though.

So your saying his editing skills are not very good ?

:) lol Half playing.... although I couldn't care less if an "artists" work is ALL photoshop. All that matters is the final product.

Reference shots are another matter.

Hey Jonsi, yes, clearly edited.... But seeing this reminds me of one of my old shots... Taken with a point and shoot, while running down the river in my boat, one handed, by myself. So the quality sucks. But none the less, other than maybe some contrast and saturation boost, I did not "paint" any portion of these clouds...

So reminds me of the rings around Saturn :)

...probably not:

Lik has been a subject of much discussion of late following the investigation into "Moonlit Dreams" (1,2), now acknowledged by Lik's own studio as a composite. I have not been able to discover the origins of any supposed assertion that Lik's work is all composed in-camera as popularly believed, but it is now confirmed by Lik's gallery that "Moonlit Dreams" is, in fact, a composite. Given the number of editors working for him, it would not be a surprise to me if some of the works that are for sale in his galleries were produced by his team, the finished product having never had any connection to the camera in Lik's hands. As long as people believe that Lik made his art, it doesn't matter.

I mean, how could anyone believe that the following:

did not use any editing software?

And while we're at it...Lik is to record-breaking prices for sold photographs as Trump is to recordbreaking inaugural crowd sizes.

My favorite landscape photographer is QT Luong - Terragalleria

Splendid photos, very naturalistic style. Shoots more with digital now, but did a lot of his work with large format film.

You mean the Peter Lik--that notorious unscrupulous cheat of composited "moonlit dreams" fame?

As Fstoppers noted, "Lik repeatedly denies his images are composites, always saying he captured his prints in one frame. No one will argue Lik's ability to market and sell his images. However misleading customers into believing something, and completely lying is where many take offense to this tactic."
