So, every 2 years or so Canon has released a new x0D & it has been over 2 years now? What gives?

Is it in the works or has another one of their lines replaced the x0D series? Looking at this years new camera releases for Canon & it looks very dismal with only a few new cams.

I beg to differ. I think the xxD cycle is closer to 3 years, not 2 years.

From memory (and happy to be corrected) the 60D was August 2010, 70D was July 2013 and 80D was Feb 2016.

Based on this I would expect the 90D to be released either late 2018 or early 2019.

Colin

I think the 90D will be along soon.

Having owned an 80D since June 2016 and shot about 50k photos on it including using it as a travel camera in Austria, Italy, France and England, I believe that the 80D remains a strong camera in today's market . Its rugged, easy to use and well put together and It holds its own with the likes of the A6300 and the D7200. Its DR is not that far behind and in the majority of applications its simply not an issue. It probably loses out in stills to the D7500 but beats it in video (its ability to use DPAF outweighs not having 4K). I wouldn't hesitate to buy another.

I also think the release of the M50 is more exciting than you think it is as it is showcasing a number of technologies that will migrate into the next generation of Canon cameras with some further enhancements (remember the M50 is more at the entry level). In particular the Digic8 processor would appear to give more latitude and capability.

The rumours are that there are potentially 3 DSLR upgrades in the works - the 90D, the 7D MkIII and the 5DSR MkII on top of a full frame mirrorless. Whether all these cameras come to fruition is yet to be seen but I wouldn't necessarily call it dismal.

My thoughts are end of Aug.. that is just a guess

I am looking for a 7D MK III but I think it would not be smart releasing the 2 the same time as one would pull sales from the other
