Dan Bailey XT-2 Full review

Hi,

Thanks for the link. It's a worthy read, but a bit of a specs and features repeat in places. Nor does summing a camera up with terms as erudite as "badass" inspire much confidence. Even so, it confirms the broader view that the XT2 is a sound upgrade and one definitely worth considering. For me personally I think the main reason to buy it is centrally the 24mpx sensor and processing improvements. I don't shoot video, sport or BIFs and everything else is a refinement of a camera that was very good anyway.

Cheers, Rod

I guess it would be reassuring if you are a fan, but most of the information could be picked out of Fujifilm's promotional materials and reworded...Though maybe not at badly as "he-whose-name-will-not-be-mentioned".

Lacking was direct comparative information from a couple of areas where Fuji has placed a lot of developmental resources:
  • How was "ISO 6400 still holds a high degree of sharpness. You start to see visible noise at 12800, but it isn’t until 25600 when things start break up. However, it’s still not bad, and certainly not unusable" determined? If that's a true statement, the X-T2 would be worlds ahead of my X-Pro2 where I "start to see visible noise" at ISOs far below 12,800 (and I aint complaining about the X-Pro2's noise, BTW).
  • It looks like Fujifilm is starting to push some buttons with get their AF up a couple of notches. But rather than just heap praise and speculate, how about some comparative shots against some current APS-C DSLRs in the $1,500 to $2,000 price range?
When I compare this with Thom Hogan's most recent review of an APS-C DSLR, the differences in the level of effort are striking.
well, it's hard to compare with Thom. it's an ok review. it may be helpful to those wanting to switch or upgraders. i know dan is fuji-sponsored so it may sound like a long-winded brochure to some.

I appreciate his efforts while we wait for Thom's review.
True regarding the wait. He just released the D500 review (a few days after he released his D500 book ;-) ). But it was pretty comprehensive. Apparently part of the delay was due to the D500 perhaps being rushed into production and not ready for prime time. For a Fuji X user, that had a sorta warm and fuzzy Beta tester familiarity (X-100 generally, X-20 orbs, and X-Pro1 growing up, and the X-T1 light leak).
IMO you're being unrealistic. Hogan's been doing this for years and I believe his reviews, blog and photography are his life and passion. His reviews are bait for people to buy his books so he's operating on a completely different level. For that reason Hogan's reviews have evolved to a very high standard which he's now a slave to. An incredible amount of work has to be done with many hours spent to realize a review like Hogan's and there are very few people that have the time or inclination. I understand and agree with what you're looking for but to expect it from someone under the OP's situation is not realistic. Wait for DPR and others for the full blown technical reviews and if you not getting what you need from reviews like the OP's then just move on and wait.

Bob
