I found this cooperative RTH hunting in a roadside field and it was good opportunity for me to try the camera for birding. All shots were handheld, RAW files were processed via DPP4.3 with Fine detail picture style, standard NR.

Thanks for looking.

Great photos!

i love the 500ii - fantastic lens!

great shots as sharp as my 1dx... but i love your detail...

i pray the 1dxii is at least 28mp.... or ads/r may come calling...

Magnificent! Glad to see the newest camera can nail focus like this.

Fantastic images. Beautiful sharp detail. You obviously didn't feel too limited by 5fps?

Have you tried the 1.3 and 1.6 crop modes? If so, what are your thoughts on the image quality using those modes?

Beautiful shots! The detail is amazing, great job.

Really wonderful. No single image has instilled an urge for a camera purchase more than this. Though as far as birding goes, I know little to nothing.

They are simply precropped RAW files ( DLO is active as well in DPP4.3.1), hence the same IQ if processed the same way. Unfortunately, there are no advantages in terms of frame rate, buffer and storage, so I don't use it any more.

Great shots but i don't think that's a Red Tail, I'm guessing a Coopers Hawk. In particular the last shot with the sunlight backlighting the tail feathers you should be seeing a red hue there.

It is immature Red tailed with no obvious red colored tail.

Camera-selling shots, for sure. Just beautiful.

Gotta ask though - these great shots - how many were taken to get these? i.e. what was your keeper rate?

It's an juvie red-tailed hawk, and Cooper's hawk is about as different from this bird as you can possibly imagine.

And, yes, I do raptor field work professionally.

Terrific shots of a magnificent animal. Well done!
