Nikon New AF-S NIKKOR 300mm f/4E PF ED VR

BEWARE THIS LENSE!!!!!

Check this lens before purchasing very diligently.

Nikon didn't remove famous bug of VR blurring in newer lenses, at least in some of them.

Here respond of Nikon on my request in this regard:

"Dear Sir,

Greetings from Nikon India !!!

This is to inform you that we have inspected your lens in Nikon India HO, Gurgaon and the same is working as per standard.

We have instructed the service team to send the same back to dealer in perfect condition.

Thanks & Regards,

NIND SUPPORT"

Verbally it was explained:

"Lens Nikon 300/f4 PF shall blur in the range of shutter speed from 1/50 to 1/200.

If you want to get sharp photo use higher shutter speed, or tripod and switch off VR".

It is difficult to understand what prevail in such response - so be careful with Nikon

Why does this require another review saying the same thing? I have my doubts about both, but this one should be deleted for repetition and/or turned into a comment thread dealing with your experience.

In other words "don't use VR unless you want a blurry picture". An unreasonably foolish response. I would work directly with Nikon Japan and make it known you are not happy with Nikon India. I have heard of this problem and don't be surprised if a recall comes of it.

Yeah I have to agree that is a very strange response. My 70-200 F4 can be comfortably handheld down to 1/30s. I see no reason why at 1/50s your 300 F4E should get blurry photos.

Lets see, a total of 4 posts and then this "review". Hmmm.

Well I would be pretty P1ssed off if I got a response from Nikon like that..

You have a problem here, newbie !

Nice first post.

I thought the vr problem was a disease!!

After publishing of this unlucky and unpleasant review Nikon India have reimbursed my money and took back lense.
Lol, Nikon did not refund you because you made a post on DPR. Glad you got it resolved though.

What is this bug you're talking about? I have one that works awesome on my Fuji.

Perhaps you missed the dates on the thread - it is 7 years old. OP has not posted recently but this is what they were possibly referring to.

Early on with this lens there were some reports that VR actually made the image worse at slow shutter speeds. Nikon did in fact have a firmware update (I sent mine in since I had one of the early versions). However, I never really use my 300mm lens at those shutter speeds. This is true with many lenses, VR sometimes makes a long exposure less sharp (I have seen it with my 70-200mm lens). In the case of the Fuji, your camera presumably has in body image stabilization so not sure if this lessens the impact. In any case, it is something one should keep in mind with any lens at slow shutter speeds and if a photo is not sharp, consider turning off the VR.

Yeah, it’s a review, so I figured it wouldn’t hurt to ask as I recently purchased this lens.

Well I had a major issue with 80-400 lens which is only 8 months old, sent it to service centre also , Nikon said it is as per standards.

I have already have had a thread here on this issue of my lens

Nikon india has lot of malpractices as i experienced one,
the sellers and Nikon officials here are not bothered about any genuine customer issues

I also get a feel in India Nikon is not a priority, but because of price range people move to it .
I can’t say for other brands , what’s happening but definitely Nikon india needs a revamp.

I m also looking to migrate to Sony mirror less but budget constaint is an issue as I have already invested in Nikon products

You are lucky to get a replacement or refund , else here no one entertains once u have bought a product

If someone can share email or contact me information on Nikon Japan, I would like to raise my issue to them,

regards

I look at a lot of reviews. This.....was no review.
He posted as a review but it was more a vent about his Nikon service response (and not a review as you say_. Not sure if he even tried the lens, other than at a couple of shutter speeds to see if VR effected the sharpness of his shot. Too bad since it is a great lens at most shutter speeds that people would use (or at least what I typically use).

Yeah well, differences of opinion aside, he posted it in the DPReview lens review section. So, it is linked to the product forever.
