Images of the G7 leaked!

the biggie is......... has it got Electronic 1st curtain ? .. if not we`re back to shutter shock on mechanical again like the rest of the (non GM) cams . we know the sensor can do it (the GM series) so they`d be serioiusly dim-witted to have missed it out.
I agree. The shutter shock issue was one of my main reasons to choose GM5 over GX7, despite the good feel, looks, ergonomics and price of the latter. Especially if I choose smaller, lighter lenses.
But what if not? Maybe they have also improved the electronic shutter read-out speed a bit...

Top control wheel - ....

With that it has adopted a single button in the middle of the wheel to replace the vile push to click.
I'm surprised more people aren't discussing this. Its the first thing I noticed on the G7 pics - the button on top of the dial. I first thought it MIGHT have been a locking button, but a normal button to replace the 'push to click' makes more sense.

I'd be happy with that. Especially if its programmable.
With two control dials there should not be a need for push-to-click: There's even an exposure compensation label for one of those buttons. That thing on the wheel is probably not a button.

So use the all electronic shutter.

Has it's drawbacks, having both is better.

I am a little tired to see all the cameras looking more or less the same. I have a Nikon DSLR, but hate this "rounded" bulky shapes; as with Canon and most of the other makes!

I think this new G7, if accurate, looks nice, but it would look even nicer, IMHO, with sharper angles and less rounded as suggested here:

Just by eye-balling the G6 and the G7, the G7 looks a bit smaller, ei shorter.
Nope, if you superimpose the images and align and size the mount, the G7 is slightly taller and a bit wider than the G6.

Like what you did, Louis, gets rid of the Olympus E-M1 "humped shoulders" look in exchange for a simpler, more classic shape.

But I can certainly live with it as it is. They got many things really right, especially the large grip area on the back uncluttered by buttons (too many manufacturer's compromise this with a video record button).

Plenty of real estate in general to avoid accidentally hitting buttons, yet still managed to get in 5 Fn programmable buttons and conveniently placed quick controls to many functions on the top left hand dial.

They've also bucked the trend (thankfully coming to an end?) of making bodies too small to handle easily. This appears just right in size, not so big as to be clumsy to carry, and not so small it gets in the way of shooting easily. And what a nice, usable grip.

I've also found the latest generation 16MP Panasonic sensor/processor as used in my GM1 to be very similar to my Sony-sensored E-M5, so no compromise compared to the E-M10 here.

Great job, Panasonic, I'm excited!

Actually, I was hoping it was a button to make the wheel multi functional as opposed to having to push the wheel in without turning. I always had the problem of not being able to turn the when without pushing it in. Friction wasn't there. So this would solve that problem - if in fact it's that kind of setup.

I have a G6! Only cost me £200 as well. For that money I don't consider it overpriced at all.
I wasn`t referring to used ones bought recently - the cam was never anywhere near that price new on the shelves and it`s only really started getting down to £200 on the used market very recently in dealers (I`ve not seen one under that - G5s are still fetching upwards of £140)

- There's something not very appealing about the overall body design; it doesn't have kerb appeal. Part of that is probably the cheap feeling build - but at least it's light.
the body reminded me of the Sony A3000 which is NOT a good thing and very un-G-like . if they`d made it from Mag alloy and used the GX7 sensor, it`d have been a mini GH4 and worth the price they were when new

Yes I still have a G3, brown at that OMG LOL. What was I thinking!!!
At least you didn`t go for the pink "Hello Kitty" one !! Panny never made that mistake again

I absolutely agree with you on the current DSLR standard look - they look as if they have just been plunked down and made a 'splat' sound.

However your surgery has left the grip as is and it is a very inconsistent design.

I bought my new G6 + 14-140 lens from Amazon UK for £370 (after a £100 cashback) back in December 2013. Considering the 14-140 lens is currently £469 on Amazon UK, my G6 body cost me MINUS £100.

So, I'm afraid that your assumption is not correct.

I just can't get excited about the subtleties being discussed in this thread. I'm looking through the EVF most of the time and at the LCD most of the rest of the time. When I look at our G6s as a whole, here is what I see.

Front view. This is the only time in months that I've been aware of the rounded shape of the top of the body. If I took a lot of selfies, I might notice it more.

None of the differences between the G6 and the leaked G7 photos will make much difference in what I see.

some of our photos

It looks like a Panasonic. Direct access buttons and more custom buttons available. Good hand grip but someone will come up with the term "plasticy" to describe how it feels. It has more of the body mass of the GH4 and that will make the ergonomics very, very good. Looks like a fine addition to the line...now, lets see how it works.

If it had sharper angles, there would be a complaint that it 'hurts to hold'...some part of a hand somewhere would come in contact with an unpleasant sensation...with the rounded features, it lends itself to better ergonomics. It is more comfortable for the masses. Yes, most cameras do have rounded bodies. Over the years, they have learned that they fit better. Go back and take a look at the original Nikon rangefinder and SLR bodies. They were sharpish around the edges. History has proven that the soft hands of the masses like the softer contours. Nikon and Canon have decreed it so it must be so.

that was a flash in the pan which a few saw and luckily took advantage of - it was far from being a regular price for the cam

So use the all electronic shutter.
you can`t in some lighting unless you want heavy thick bands in your images or with moving subjects unless you want them banana shaped - it also disables use of flash
