I want to take some pictures at a friends party. I turn the camera on, shoot some photos, then do not take any more pictures for maybe 3-5 minutes.

Question: Do I turn the camera on and off using the ON OFF POWER SWITCH every time I want to take a picture, or do I let the Auto Meter-off Delay shut down the exposure meter and leave the ON/OFF POWER SWITCH ON? When I want to take more photos I just have to press the shutter release button. What is better for the camera?

I don't know if it is better for the camera, but I leave mine on most of the time. Sometimes I forget to turn it off and it stays on for days. I really don't think there is much difference from on to off other than the buttons are disabled. All the actions of the camera jump to life when you push the shutter button.

Yeah, I'm fairly new to DSLR's as well but from all the reading I've done before even getting a DSLR, the general concensus was to just leave it ON. They are NOT power hungry like P&S models which have to keep either an LCD or and EVF powered up while they're ON.

I don't think it matters a hill of beans ether way. I tend to turn it off, but it's just habit and I turn in on so fast, I don't think I lose a shot. I too have left mine on several days with no battery loss I can see.

For short periods of time (half hour or less) I never bother to turn it off. When I am done for the day, I try to remember to do so. But, I have forgotten to do so many times without any problems. Once I left it "on" for 6 days without any appreciable battery drain. Which seems to indicate it does not matter much if at all.
