new 10MP elphs: SD890IS (5x); SD790IS (3" lcd), SD770IS

10 megapixel 1/2.3" sensor digital cameras...

I guess I'll just get a G7.

Sorry to say, these SD cameras are just not all that interesting. Pretty much more of the same. I'm sure that they're nice cameras and all that but...

Canon is still doing the stupid megapixel race. Sux the 890 isn't wide since it has manual mode. These won't be replacing my Panasonic.

For once US Model numbers actaully make more sense sticking withSD 800 series for tiny sensors !! .. Over here we've got

Ixus 900 Ti - Big 10Mp CCD
Ixus 950 IS - Tiny 8Mp CCD
Ixus 960 IS - Big 12Mp CCD
Ixus 970 IS - Tiny 10Mp CCD

Talk about ridiculous naming scheme - it's bad enough they give them different names over the world as it is without that mess.. they ALL should have Japanese Ixy names really

Enhanced IS for SD890IS.

I wonder how much better it really is. The lense is slower on the SD890IS though, so it probably cancel out.

It's accepted that cams of this size with 1:1.8" CCDs or bigger will have slow lenses but WHY have all the ones with pinhead sensors like this got lenses that incredibly slow ! - they should be F2-2.8 with sensors that small ! ..

Unexciting, to say the least.

I'm holding off for a new wide-angle P&S and had thought that with competition from the new Fuji F100fd, Panasonic FX35, Nikon S600 and Ricoh R8, that Canon may release an update to their seemingly excellent wide-angle SD870 (Ixus 860) - perhaps a bit more zoom length like Fuji or Ricoh, perhaps HD video like Panasonic. Seems not which is unfortunate.

Still, perhaps by the time reviewers get hold of any of the above, Canon will have released an update to the SD870. I hope so.

IMHO the dumbing down started with the S80 which replaced an S70 that had RAW.

The more they churn out high-MP small-CCD cams the more tempting (relatively) small DSLRs get.

Well, we've made it. I'm sure these are nice units, and will produce prety nice images, but it's obvious that the industry, as far as consumer compacts go, is running in place and has no interest in moving forward. The lone exception was Fuji, but they've been 'marketeered' into the MP race and have all but abandoned any attempt at furthering their high ISO capability for compacts.
Damn shame...
