Posts slowing down... sad.

year, when I initially bought my A2! I'm finding a renewed
interest in the perfect shot and realist color. Thanks for the
spark!!!
Excellent !! :) . I'm stunned with the 28mm shots in RAW in RSE at 6Mp ISO64 from the A2 , they give the KM 5D and 7D more than a run for their money, the detail is phenominal - the A1 does the same to the D2HS, whole zoom range at 4Mp and ISO100 (ISO160 really) .. RSE in combination with the fast writing firmware (and AF improvements in the A1) really does breath new life into these cameras !

Dear Minoltians,

Yes I notice this slowing down too. But there are maybe people like me who are going through the posts almost every day. Maybe this is an oportunity for all of us to be more active. I am quite busy with my two professions and family with two little children. I recently had eye surgery on one eye and soon I'll have it on the other eye which makes work on computer more difficult. I have houndreds of photos which wait on my computer for PP but there is no time although I'd like to learn much more which requires time.

What I'd like to stress is that one of the strong reasons to buy my A2 was this forum which is also a community. I'd like that wee keep this community.

Hi Steve,

After owning a film SLR for many years, I have stubbornly resisted a DSLR. I too find the A2 a wonderful camera and hope that KM will produce the A3. It's getting harder to avoid the DSLR as the new generation of prosumers has become as large as the DSLRs (e.g. Fuji 9000/9500, Sony R1, and Pano FZ30). For me if it comes down to a prosumer that is as large as the DSLR, then I'll have to move to a DSLR.

Quite frankly, if KM could simply replace the Sony 2/3/ sensor in the A2 with another 2/3 that could deliver excellent ISO 800, I'd buy that. But if the only way to get the great high ISO performance is put in the APS chips, then the prosumer isn't quite as attractive due to size. I like video, intervalometry and great still capture all in one camera though!

Hi,

I think there are probably more lurkers (like myself) who perhaps could start posting more -- I love checking in every couple of days for the WDYSPT, with the inspirational shots...This forum has been great for me over the past 6 months since getting the A2, and I certainly hope it doesn't lose the "veterans" who make such valuable contributions and suggestions for these great cameras.
Ahhh, a chance to pass some love to the community.

hey, i love my lowly z6!

but it does get some bad reviews. seems like some people expect the camera to jump out of the box and take the pictures for you. ;-)

DPReview is a digital hardware review site, not a photography site, and since its forums are basically divided by brands, if a brand is not showing a lot of new hardware, its forum is understandably going to show less activity. It's simply the nature of things.

When the standard that other cameras in a forum are measured against (the A2 in this forum) is over a year and a half old and pushing two years (long in the tooth in the digital photography world) almost everything is old news. What else can be said about the A2 that hasn't already been said countless times?

Speaking for myself, I've reached a comfort level with my digital hardware and am not interested in buying anything new, so therefore my interest in what the entire DPReview site has to offer has diminished accordingly, which is also reflected in my forum participation.

I am not a competitive person and therefore don't enjoy the challenges and don't relate at all or have the slightest interest in new hardware, so while I drop by the forum periodically I seldom see anything that interests me enough to participate and I have nothing to contribute that I haven't already contributed numerous times, so this is all why I'm not around much anymore and I doubt I’m alone in this.

Sad, true, but life moves on.

Well said Gordon.

I am in the same boat. I'm happy with the equipment I now own, not competitive enough to join all the challenges anymore, and therefore only pop in here only a couple times a week. I have monitored this forum for about four years and the interest does go up and down with new product.

On top of everything that has been pointed out, the KM Forum split in two about a year or so ago. Without any new top of the line"prosumer" product, the interest is waining.

The folks at Fuji would beg to differ. Have you seen the output of the tiny Fuji F10? ISO 400 is remarkably clean and ISO 800 pretty dang good. Even has a usable ISO 1600. Not as clean as the 20D's- but, well, that fact that I'm even comparing these two cameras says alot.

That will be in the first firmware update 8^P

gee, i can't wait. i'll be able to lie in bed and munch chockies, while me cam runs about taking pics to knock yer sox off. do you think the firmware update will include a coffee maker function?

Jim,

Maybe its not so sad - maybe its a happy thing.

It seems the primary reason for buying a camera in the first place is
to enjoy photography. So maybe all the people who aren't here are
doing just that.

I'm not saying that the forum doesn't serve a purpose. Lots of people
write in for help with problems or advice about this and that. I used
to hang around a lot more before I bought my A2. But now that I have
it, I spend a good part of my free time using it. So maybe fewer posts
means that people aren't having many problems and are enjoying their
cameras. And that is not a sad thing.

What I do think I see here that sometimes seems sad to me is people
who seem to spend so much time on the forum that it makes me
wonder why they ever bought a camera in the first place. Some of
them even seem to have lots of cameras - making it even more of a
mystery.

I won't argue with anyone who says that the forum is also a form of
social interaction. It certainly is and people are entitled to that. Its
just that I'd prefer to interact with people on a face to face basis
and use the rest of my spare free time for taking and working with
pictures.

So maybe fewer posts is not such a sad thing.

I don't know how much KM watches this forum but my guess is there
won't be an A3 unless they are pretty convinced there is a good
market for it and that it can be sold for a profit against the rest of the
pro-summer and low end DSLR competition. I think there are a lot of
good inputs for them on this forum - but that still doesn't mean that
acting on them will produce a good selling profit making product. To
be successful, a product must bring a decent return on investment.
I'm sure a lot of the people on this forum longed out loud for many
of the features found in the A2 - but that didn't guarantee that it
would be a long running profitable product. I doubt KM will do an A3
if there aren't better sales prospects for it - and if they thought there
were, the A200 would have been an A3,

Only a dozen new posts/replies in the last 24 hrs.

Sad.

Seems all serious photographers/enthusiasts have moved to the
Konica/Minolta SLR talk.

Which is doubly sad. Most of the posts there are "Gee, which cheap
lens should I buy with that bargain 5D, instead of the already
bargain 5D kit lens?"

This bodes ill for those of us lusting after a potential A3. Think
KM marketing isn't watching this forum? Think again.

Adam,

You wrote "... (and AF improvements in the A1) really does breath new life into these cameras !"

Did one of the firmware updates improve the autofocusing? If so, which one?

Thanks,

Joe M

I haven't got a clue but mine was 1.01 when I got it (used) and I went direct to 1.4 and noticed that it seemed more sensitive and faster in low light - it was accurate before even on brightly lit subjects, still is now thankfully

i too wish km would produce an a3 with the fuji f10 or similar sensor and a km 28 to 300 lens with AS.
i took several hundred pics with the f10 and was totally frustrated with it..
but the pics were great!!
im sure km could build a better lens and handling camera than fuji.
hope they are watching.

I thought 1.4 (1.14?) was only for the A2. I went from 1.10u to
1.13u without noticing any improvement.
Sorry - 1.13 for the A1 - I've been upgrading both models and easy to get mixed up ;-)

I keep hearing about the Raynox 2020PRO lens also. Sounds great! I hear they also have a wide angle converter. What do you know about it? I miss my the wide angle I use to get with my SLR 28-200 Tamron lens. I read one report that said the Raynox wide angle rounded off the corners -- like tunnel vision (I forgot the techy term). Do you know anything about this?
Did you get the 2.2x lens?

Nothing at this point. Can't afford it ;^)

Vignetting - I hadn't seen that. They have 2 lenses with a 2020 designation. One looks like it's 52 mm (or larger) at the base, the other is much smaller, maybe 38 mm. I can see the 38mm base vignetting big time. The other one might vignette at the wide angle setting on the Z6 but I'd think it would be fine as you move out toward 900 mm!
Did you get the 2.2x lens?
Nah, couldn't afford it yet. Bought a Digi-Slave Ring Light for macro photography instead. See the link below.

When buying add-on converters it is essential to try them before finalising any purchase as many do vignette & have very bad CA at the edges of frames. The Minolta converters are specially matched to KM cameras & are very good although they may be too big & heavy for some users.
