Hello,
I have just released the new improved version of MRWFormat
plug-in for Photoshop. The registered users shall receive this
version shortly as my mailserver is already sending it out.
The others are welcomed to download it from
http://www.dalibor.cz/minolta/plugin.htm
and give it a try in Adobe Photoshop, ImageReady or Elements.

Here is a short summary of what's new:
  • User interface was redesigned
It looks nicer, it fits on smaller screens and it displays correctly
in Photoshop CS.
  • Temp slider is now working
So you can fine tune the color temperature after neutralizing the image.
  • White balance presets list was added
You can add as many white balance presets as you want and name it.
  • New Presets menu
It allows to store named presets for all the sliders
and recall them fast and easy.
  • New Preferences dialog
You no longer have to edit .ini file by hand
and you can tweak the plug-in's behaviour in user friendly way
  • Thumbnails in Browser are generated much faster way
I have measured that I generate thumbnails six times faster then CameraRaw
  • Plug-in saves its setting into .ini file so they are not lost
  • New DIVU +-5 contrast curves
Regards,
Dalibor

You give us 1000X more support than Adobe do for their £100 Raw conveter (ACR), they won't update it or add new cameras whatsoever..

Keep up the good work :)

Thanks Dalibor. You made my last posting much easier and more interesting!

The Images are coming straight from the RAW converter full of detail without needig to run my usual sharpening action (D7) - the A1 does this using DIVU but the D7 doesn't - Nice one (unless I missed something both in DIVU and MRW before..

I told you Dalibor knows his stuff. ;D

Great piece of software. And DiVu is a very good RAW converter, probably the best ever shipped (free) with a prosumer camera. Still Dalibor's plug-in squeezes out even more from those RAW files.

Just figure what it could do with other cameras that ship with much worse raw converters... the F828 for example!

Hi Dalibor,

Thanks for all your work. Can I make a small request?

I've tried to evaluate your plugin, but it never selects an area of the image to process that I'm interested in :-(.

Is there a way to tell it for example, to process the top left quadrant, centre etc? At least then I could pick something with detail to give it a decent test.

Dalibor

Wow - this is a brig improvement. I just tried it on a few MRW files and it shows a substantial improvement since your last release. Great job!

One question remains, however - and that is how can I have the option of using either your plug-in or the stock Adobe CS version? Right now I have it installed in my PS-7 plug-in folder. But if I put it in my CS folder, then your plug-in becomes the default software.

So how can you modify this so we have some type of option on which RAW converter to choose? Right now if we wanted to temporarily go back and try the Adobe ACR, we have to delete the plug-in from the plug-in folder - not a good option.

Thanks,

worse raw converters... the F828 for example!
Or Fuji ? .. That must take the biscuit for the worst!

Sony Raw converter his pics from the 828 were quite worse than
off-camera jpegs!
Even Fuji can't beat that! LOL!! :'D
True but you have to admit that Fuji did their best to ruin the 3Mp S5000 and 6Mp S7000 JPGs to begin with - maybe to make their RAW converter look all the better - LOL !!!!!!!

Especially for the ability to adjust the histogram of each color channel separately. I was considering the upgrade to CS just for this, but now I don't need to do that.
Your plug in is vastly improved in functionality with this latest update!!

The only thing that I'd like to see added is to be able to sample the actual values of the pixels, before and after when using the neutralize dropper. It makes it so much easier to choose a neutral value, at least for me.

Hi Dalibor

I wanted to try your plug-in on the Photoshop, but currently I have yet to have a camera that able to output as Raw. Is there anyway that I can download a Raw files, I believe it is quite a big files.
Thks

If you can spend the extra $20 for it, you will definately NOT regret it. I mean look at this thread, Dalibor makes a constant effort to update his plugin so that his customers are happy. Everyone who has the new version is even more happy they spent the money. I dare you to find a single customer who isn't happy they spent the money. You can't even take a friend out to dinner for what this program costs...its next to nothing, and its probably got the best customer support of ANY program out there (at least that I have come accross).
Anyway, my suggestion is to just buy it, but "to all his own" :)

Agreed, or at least be able to see what the numerical values are underneith the pointer. I was thinking the same thing when I was using the Color Temp adjuster, which IMO is the most significant improvement. I also like not waiting for the thumbnails...man what a difference. Dalibor, you are a good man. Thanks for all the work you do :)

Are you looking for a specific camera's pictures? ie. are you thinking about purchasing an A1? If you just want to play with the plugin, I could email you a few raw files. Let me know what kind of pictures you would like to play with, if this is indeed what you are looking for. I'm sure others wouldn't mind sending you A1 files, if thats what your looking for.

Hi Dalibor,

I am encouraged to use your product in conjunction with my A1 by all the great feedback. The only thing making me hesitate at all is that I do not think I can afford the price of PhotoShop CS with its 16/48 bit colour capability and MRWF does not work with other 16/48 bit programs like Picture Window Pro, so I am stuck with Elements 2 with its 8/24 bit colour capability if I want to use MRWF. I know you have previously suggested that there may not be much difference between the two unless you intend doing a lot of processing, in which case 16/48 is clearly going to give a better result. However, as far as I can tell, it only takes a quick and simple action to expand the output range of the histogram to fill the entire range to leaves 'holes' in the histogram if that processing is done at 8/24 bit depth. Those holes might not be apparent on a computer monitor, but are likely to show up if printing at a decent size. I also recall you stating that, even when using MRWF with Elements 2, the RAW file is processed entirely at 16/48 bit resolution before being passed to the host application for saving in a regular format like TIFF or JPG. That means it is only the output colour depth that is 8/24 bits, not the processing itself, so I guess that should not produce the histogram 'holes' I am talking about. However, if I want to do subsequent processing in a 16/48 bit program, I will still only be able to work at the 8/24 bit depth of the image converted from RAW in Elements 2 and that subsequent processing might degrade the image unacceptably when compared with processing using a 16/48 bit program.

Can you foresee, ideally, producing a standalone version of MRWF, or, as a lesser preferred alternative, one that plugs into more than just PhotoShop or ImageReady? As you have seen, I am specifically interested in getting RAW output from my A1 into Picture Window Pro by converting from RAW to 16/48 bit TIFF first. If I cannot do that with MRWF, I might have to use DIVU instead, despite its other limitations when compared with MRWF.
Cheers from down under, John

I've only just seen your announcement - I went to bed early last night! I also hadn't checked my mail but when I did - there was the upgrade zip!

I've said this before Dalibor but I'll say it again -YOU ARE A STAR!

Your continuing development , your willingness to listen to feedback & your efficient updating put you in a class apart from the rest.

To anyone who has not already got your program I would say

'Don't hesitate - you are missing out on the best deal around'

Keith-C
