ANN: MRWFormat version 1.40 is released (Windows only)

Hello,
I am sorry but I do not want to change anything on the
Demo version. The point of the demo should be to verify
that the plug-in is really working on your machine
and you can try the speed on the simpler interpolation.
You can also evaluate the effect of the different algorithms
in the preview window, as this is not limited.

Dalibor
Thanks for all your work. Can I make a small request?

I've tried to evaluate your plugin, but it never selects an area of
the image to process that I'm interested in :-(.

Is there a way to tell it for example, to process the top left
quadrant, centre etc? At least then I could pick something with
detail to give it a decent test.

Hi,
I have responded to this question already here
http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1024&message=7417587

I believe that File-> Open As should work for you.

Wow - this is a brig improvement. I just tried it on a few MRW
files and it shows a substantial improvement since your last
release. Great job!

One question remains, however - and that is how can I have the
option of using either your plug-in or the stock Adobe CS version?
Right now I have it installed in my PS-7 plug-in folder. But if I
put it in my CS folder, then your plug-in becomes the default
software.

So how can you modify this so we have some type of option on which
RAW converter to choose? Right now if we wanted to temporarily go
back and try the Adobe ACR, we have to delete the plug-in from the
plug-in folder - not a good option.

Thanks,

Well Susan as far as I know there is no possibility to adjust
the channels separately. You can just view them separately.

Your wish is added into my wish list.

Dalibor
Especially for the ability to adjust the histogram of each color
channel separately. I was considering the upgrade to CS just for
this, but now I don't need to do that.
Your plug in is vastly improved in functionality with this latest
update!!
The only thing that I'd like to see added is to be able to sample
the actual values of the pixels, before and after when using the
neutralize dropper. It makes it so much easier to choose a neutral
value, at least for me.

Also added into wish list.

Dalibor
Agreed, or at least be able to see what the numerical values are
underneith the pointer. I was thinking the same thing when I was
using the Color Temp adjuster, which IMO is the most significant
improvement. I also like not waiting for the thumbnails...man what
a difference. Dalibor, you are a good man. Thanks for all the
work you do :)

Great job, Dalibor! It's time you start developing a Noise Reduction plug in !!!

Lucas

Actually, when I have the "information" screen active and click on each channel to review the histogram that by slight adjustments to the corresponding RGGB values on the main screen under the custom temp drop down window I can see and adjust the histogram fairly effictively. I have had excellent results adjusting white balance in this way. It may not be an intended feature, but it works for me. Thanks anyway!

Hello Dalibor. I am a registered user, but have not yet received the upgrade. Please contact me offline. Thanks. -Norm
Hello,
I have just released the new improved version of MRWFormat
plug-in for Photoshop. The registered users shall receive this
version shortly as my mailserver is already sending it out.
The others are welcomed to download it from
http://www.dalibor.cz/minolta/plugin.htm
and give it a try in Adobe Photoshop, ImageReady or Elements.

Here is a short summary of what's new:
  • User interface was redesigned
It looks nicer, it fits on smaller screens and it displays correctly
in Photoshop CS.
  • Temp slider is now working
So you can fine tune the color temperature after neutralizing the
image.
  • White balance presets list was added
You can add as many white balance presets as you want and name it.
  • New Presets menu
It allows to store named presets for all the sliders
and recall them fast and easy.
  • New Preferences dialog
You no longer have to edit .ini file by hand
and you can tweak the plug-in's behaviour in user friendly way
  • Thumbnails in Browser are generated much faster way
I have measured that I generate thumbnails six times faster then
CameraRaw
  • Plug-in saves its setting into .ini file so they are not lost
  • New DIVU +-5 contrast curves
Regards,
Dalibor

Perfect. It seems that I am very good programmer.
I can create new features just like side-effects and
I am not even aware of it.

We registred Mac-users also want to take part in this event. What's the story? Days, weeks or never. This version apparently adresses all my complaints about version 1.32, so hopefully we will not have to wait long. After all, the Mac platform is the choice of most professional photographers.

Hello,
I am sorry but I do not want to change anything on the
Demo version.
I fully understand your reluctance, but maybe defaulting to the centre would be more useful for most people in their evaluations.

You can also evaluate the effect of the different algorithms
in the preview window, as this is not limited.
To do a proper evaluation, I really would like to get a decent sample area to compare. i realise it's only ?20, but I always like to test first!

I received your e-mail today.

Thank you

But i have a problem in that
I used MRWFormat turn down Exposure - 0.8

I've downloaded and tried the plugin in PSE2. Unfortunately when I try to open a MRW file, I get an error "Could not open because".

In the demo download, there is no ini file as described in the manual (which I read!!!)

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? Can anyone post an ini file?

Dalibor, Congratulations on the new version 1.40, which works just fine.

I agree with those who have asked for color management of the preview window. With experience, you can get to predict what the result of the interpolation will be, but it is a bit haphazard, especially for new users.

I also agree that you are charging too little. I am sure you could get $29, without losing many sales. But for the fact that a convertor is now included in PS CS, which I guess will be upgraded and made official eventually, you would be able ot get a lot more - maybe $49.

The PS CS convertor, which I have hardly used since starting with yours, does offer an anti-vignette filter. It also offers some corrections for aberrations. but the A1 and D7x lens does not really have a need for those.

I believe the output from your convertor is better than from the PS version, with better sharpness and less noise, especially using the VNG-DJ interpolation. But that is an unofficial version.

Whatever you decide, you certainly deserve some reward for all your work, and I hope you succeed in making a little money.

I have done some programming myself in the past, and have never had much luck in making any money out of it. What you are asking for is the price of a DVD movie which people might view once or twice, but people do not view intellectual property as something they should pay for.

Hi MAtt

You are right, I have this in mind, looking for a Raw files to play with, A1 should be ok since that is my choice. THks
Dan
Are you looking for a specific camera's pictures? ie. are you
thinking about purchasing an A1? If you just want to play with the
plugin, I could email you a few raw files. Let me know what kind
of pictures you would like to play with, if this is indeed what you
are looking for. I'm sure others wouldn't mind sending you A1
files, if thats what your looking for.
(I have a 7i)

Hi,
I know about htis problem and I think that it is mentioned
in the User Guide. I plan to solve this in near future.
I am sorry if this causes you problems.

Hi,
in this new version there should be no need to have
.ini file. If you don't have it it should be created automatically,
after you press OK for the first time (or Preferences-> Save).
I believe I have tested this and it was working for me.

Is the error message really just "Could not open because" ?

Yes, it really does say "Could not open because"

I have tried saving preferences too, but no ini file is created.

If you want, I can contact you directly via email.

Thanks for helping
