*** Sign the petition - Request better firmware from Canon ***

what a delightful idea :)
Thanks! As good as your pics :)
Piggy
I've put together this web based petition, that you are welcome to
sign if you want:

http://www.change.to/improve300d

(Please give med feedback on my English in the petition, since I'm
not a native English speaker.)
Dear Philip! I was thinking to do somethig like that long time ago,
and I found that probably the best way to make Canon more
responsible for relation with us - Send this petition as an OPEN
LETTER to publish to all Photography realted magazines and
newspapers. I think that they WILL HAVE to publish it if we got a
lot of wotes here. At list one of them will do it, I hope ..
Don't know to much about the law, but I think this is something
connected to Human Rights.
Maybe I'm wrong, but who knows?
What do you think, everyone?

Piggy
P.S. I'm not a native English speaker also..

ouch!!!
knowing our luck, if the Nikon has user-selectable AF, FEC and even
metering modes (or a combination of the 3), then instead of doing
the same with a firmware release, Canon will just drop the price

then we'll all be even more annoyed!

For what it's worth, most of the people who signed this petition
probably don't expect anything to come of it, but it certainly
can't hurt.

All the photo mags out make huge amounts of money from the full page ads Canon, Nikon etc choose to run.

They simply will not run anything that doesnt show Canon in a good light

YOu cant even find reviews anymore that say anything except praise for every product.

Know why ? Because if a magazine post a review that says the 300D is poor for example, Canon is going to pull its advertsing.

Look at Pop Photo, that thing is more mail order catalog than a magazine.

Dont hold your breath on the 300D firmware but also dont count on the d70 any time either.

Nikon already delayed the D2 and thats been developed already. All they said on the D70 is "springtime". I dont think they have much of a prototype yet and if they have the same delays actually shipping it you might not be able to buy one til "summer"

Canon might have a 300D replacement or maybe a firmware fix by then.

Maybe get rid of the 10D, update the 300D a little bit and make that the "low end camera" then the 1D replacemnt would fill the mid range and keep the 1Ds as no one has anything close to 11megs yet

Sounds like a plan that would make everyone happy. Especially me if the 1d replacement is 1.3x crop factor, 8megs, keeps the 8FPS and adds an even larger buffer and has an even better 45 point AF. Oh and maybe price it below $3000

But hey, maybe it will be a 1Ds and it will just have 4 megapixels turned off via software or something. You know how Canon thinks...

do they ever dix their bugs then?
Not totally, it took them 6 months to fix a serious bug in the D60 which caused thumbnails to be black and files not written in RAW mode, they even denied there was a problem for a long while, they never fixed the problems the D60 had with the 28-135IS either (Underexposure in most cases as well as focussing problems in some) the lens miraculously worked fine on the other DSLRs .. they never put wide area E-TTL metering in the D30, D60, 1D and 1DS so FEL is needed most of the time (the 10D is almost Point and shoot with an EX flash) despite Emails and moans from a LOT of people - and they never will either - they DID finally sort the problems the 1D had with the 28-70L but considering that it's a Pro camera and THE Pro lens for PJs, i'm amazed that they took so long about it..

I've come to the conclusion that apart from serious bugs that like Fuji, with canon, what you get on release is what you're stuck with - only Minolta and Nikon offer feature updates and they do it for discontinued products too! - I'd gladly PAY for wide area E-TTL and Image zoom for the 1D ..

That doesn't mean that upper management (in any country, not just
Japan) will willingly read anything written in a foreign language,
nor that they'll follow any recommendations not in their own
language....
Good point.

(Maybe it is not so true for Sweden, where management seems to
think English is rather fun, but I know it to be true for many
other European countries like Germany...)

Would you like to translate it? I would be most grateful.
Sorry, no, I don't translate into Japanese. As a general rule, translations are done into the translator's native language.
Do you know anything about whom we could contact at Canon in Japan?
Can't help you there, neither.

I am not an owner yet..

I agree with your action however I do feel it would be better if the letter was toned down and more specific of the faults rather than sounding like a wish list.

Specify the faults

Because of the inconsistancy of the flash internal and external FEC is required .......

AI not kicking in or out at the correct moment perhaps Daniel could describe her problems with an example.......

etc. etc

I also think it unwise to include serial numbers with names if you are threatening them you are going elsewhere for third party firmware. Perhaps it would be better just to suggest that you are aware of it happening. Canon could log all the numbers and void the warranties of those cameras, you have signed a statement telling them you are going to do it!

As can be seen from this thread when people understand the problems they then come round and start to agree with the so called whinners. If they don't understand perhaps they should go and try the experiment on their own camera, then come back with solutions or offer support. If they don't want to understand they should just go away and ignore those threads.

Above all you have to make it plain that you have a 300d with flaws in it rather than looking like you are after a cheap upgrade to a 10d.

I hope this helps.

I am sorry about this Discobay.

I have had serious problems with flaming (like 100D rules.... mothafukka sent 100 times) and false names (like Al Bush and George Gore and so on).

I had to do some serious cleaning... Sorry, if I cleaned away any real persons in the process!

If your name is missing after that just try to sign up again!
