*** Sign the petition - Request better firmware from Canon ***

Dear Philip! I was thinking to do somethig like that long time ago,
and I found that probably the best way to make Canon more
responsible for relation with us - Send this petition as an OPEN
LETTER to publish to all Photography realted magazines and
newspapers. I think that they WILL HAVE to publish it if we got a
lot of wotes here. At list one of them will do it, I hope ..
Don't know to much about the law, but I think this is something
connected to Human Rights.
Maybe I'm wrong, but who knows?
What do you think, everyone?

Piggy
P.S. I'm not a native English speaker also..
To send it to a bunch of photo magz. could be a good step!
The don't have to publish (at least not where I come from) but
chances are they just might... Good idea!

The question is: You can't do that after you've sent it to Canon,
or can you?
Don't know ..but I think better to send it to periodical press BEFORE .. maybe ONLY to press, not to Canon :)

I can't believe people complain about limitations when they purchased an item knowing what it's limitations were and then they complain. It's just too funny! PEOPLE...You Get What You Pay For! LOL!

did the film Rebel had AI focus forced in creative modes?

I never noticed that.
When on earth will you people learn this?

It's a Rebel Ti, only digital. please please please understand
this. It has all the same features of the Rebel Ti. (or 300v)

Is this really so damn hard to understand?

YOU BOUGHT A REBEL!

It's even called a rebel, so if you bought a rebel, and are now
complaining that it's not an elan, then you are smrat!

It's a REBEL!

hmm good question..maybe give Canon a chance to reply and then add their reply to the open letter? I bet it will be something very stupid :)

no people are actualy complaining that the AI focus is not working as it should. it is a bad design and does not work as expected.

If you take the time to read anything..you will get the idea.

toady..you're so hypicryte that it is funny :) You would not install it if Canon would be giving us a fix to control the AI focus? now don't make me lought and say no :)))))
Phil, this make a LOT of sense ! Why not putting a checkbox,
"owner" or "potential buyer if updated" ? Just put the actual list
as owner, and wait and see ;-)
Also clean some kids who have put names like gimmegimmegimme ....

Kib
Hi Kib!

Cleaned out som kids/nikon-trolls whatever...

I just slapped the form-list-thing together in good old perl-script
in a haste, today, but did'nt expect such a rush to sign the
list... :-D or to abuse it :- .

Programmed a "easy remove from list" function this evening on
account of those "kids"... ;-)

I like the idea with "potential buyer", but i'll have to give it a
rest for a couple of days now, let's get back to it some time next
week.

Looking promising though.. so far the list has been signed by 251
persons.

Would be really fun if it moves towards a thousand...

I don,t know where all those trolls are coming from...it is amazing..they grow like mushrooms.

These limitations were NOT disclosed. The damned thing is too often counter-intuitive. A little disclosure would have changed a lot of minds. They spoke of the fast focus, but the only thing that I can count on is that SOME PART OF THE PICTURE WILL BE VERY SHARP, but TOO OFTEN THE WRONG ONE!

If I knew that I would have gladly waited until I could afford the non-brain-crippled model.
I don't feel like I got what was advertised . . . .

Hi log!

I'm sure I will find some people at Canon (some interesting
addresses have been floating around this forum already) that
understand English.
Yes, since in theory every Japanese person who completed school since the war has studied English for several years.

That doesn't mean that upper management (in any country, not just Japan) will willingly read anything written in a foreign language, nor that they'll follow any recommendations not in their own language....
However I'll be glad to see an translation/adaption into any
language of the petition posted in more "local" forums than this
one. This is, alas, not up to me...

Philip

knowing our luck, if the Nikon has user-selectable AF, FEC and even metering modes (or a combination of the 3), then instead of doing the same with a firmware release, Canon will just drop the price

then we'll all be even more annoyed!

For what it's worth, most of the people who signed this petition probably don't expect anything to come of it, but it certainly can't hurt.

How about an open letter that states.

I bought a camera without doing research. Now I found it does not support two things I wanted. Even though anyone who read up on the camera knew that the camera did not have FEC and understood about the the focus.

I was not even in the market for a 300D and was well aware of these limitations before the camera shipped. Phil even had posts about FEC. Someone claimed the camera would have FEC and he clearly stated that it would not have this feature. The manual for the camera was on-line all most a month before the camera shipped. If you read the manual you would have seen these limitations.

Canon has three clear lines in their DSLRs Consumer, Semipro, and Pro. This is very similar to their film SLR line-up. Although they have a higher end semi-pro EOS 3 that currently does not have a DSLR equivilant.

The fact is that Canon mirrored the Digital Rebel from the film Rebel. The feature set is the same.

Good point.

(Maybe it is not so true for Sweden, where management seems to think English is rather fun, but I know it to be true for many other European countries like Germany...)

Would you like to translate it? I would be most grateful.

Do you know anything about whom we could contact at Canon in Japan?

Philip
