I know myself and most others that own Z mount lenses don't really care to go back to F mount lenses or acquire more of them...

However, if what Nikon Rumors is true that F-Mount lenses are to be massively discounted in the near future, are there any F-Mount lenses you would consider purchasing new if the price was right?

Personally I would be interested in acquiring one or two of the higher-end telephoto primes if they were significantly discounted, and perhaps something exotic like the 8-15mm Fisheye zoom, but I don't really have a desire for much else. What about you all?

I already own the entire current fleet of F Lenses in new condition but would buy a additional 200MM F/2 as a spare..

Absolutely, the question is just what "the right price" is. Some of those lenses have always been outside the realm of consideration, for me, and I doubt that they'll fall in price enough for me to buy one before they sell out. I'd love to own a 180-400 or 400 2.8, but even a couple grand off their prices would still put them well above what I've ever spent on a lens.

If prices get to where they’re so good that I feel like I have to get something to take advantage of a tremendous value opportunity, then I would lean toward the 105 f/1.4E. I would use it as an outdoor portrait lens or for indoor events.

But I remain skeptical Nikon ever drops it to a can’t resist level.

without question i would! especially some of their fisheye options or wide angle lenses.

Absolutely, I am shooting with bunch of those F-mount on my Z7 and Z9, some of those are still my main everyday lenses, such as the Sigma 28 F1.4, Sigma 40 F1.4, and Nikon 105 F1.4 Zeiss Milvus 35 , 85, 135. Also actively looking for a 200 F2. yes, I am not one of those " mirrorless should be small " guy. in fact, i don't even like the rendering of most of those new Z lenses ( except for F1.2 primes),

I found a lot of F-mount lens I have works even better on the Z9 compare to the D850 and D4 I used before, so I have no problem keep on using them, in fact, I use the 105 1.4 even more often than the 85 1.2S, and I ditched the 35 1.8S and 50 1.8S and went back to the Sigma 40 1.4 and Sony 35GM, so definitely will buy another F-mount lens if that fits my focal length and image quality standard/requirement.

However, looking at the list Nikonrumors.com posted, I can't find one single lens that I care for, I already own the two PF and a few F4 super tele from the Canon side so I am not going to get any of those fast telephoto from that list, the 28mm is pretty nice lens but I like the Sigma 28 1.4 a lot more and already own that, not a fan of 50/58 FL, already own the 105 F1.4 and 85 1.2S so no need the 85 1.4G, so even if Nikon offers a really deep discount I don't find anything attractive to me from that list. again if they still sell the 200 F2 with discount I will jump on it right away, it's a lens I don't mind to pay a little bit more for new instead of buying used.

No.

Actually it is the wide-angle lenses that are much improved in the Z mount, while the improvements on the teles side more more limited. I can only assume that Nikon will introduce some super-wide, fisheye, and wide tilt-shift lenses in the next year or two, and there will also be third-party options for the native Z mount. I sure don't want to be stuck with some new F-mount lenses at this point.

If Nikon indeed has a fire sale on F-mount lenses, it will push used prices further down. If I need, e.g., a fisheye immediately, I would buy used for the interim. It should be very easy to buy used F-mount Nikkors at this point; selling is the problem. That is very much a buyer's market.

I also would much rather not use adapters.

  • Any of the super tele exotics.
  • Any of the PC-E
  • 58mm f/1.4G
  • 28mm f/1.4E
  • 105mm f/1.4E
  • Any of the f/2.8 Pro zoom trio
Shot on a Pro DSLR like a D850, D8xx, or D5/D6 you're easily getting output every bit to the level of current flagship camera/lens combinations.

Nikon 120-300 F/2.8 Zoom for USD$2500.00 a good enough fire sale..?

Yup. I still shoot with my D850. If there was a big discount on a super tele prime I might consider it. Although right now I have my sights set on the Nikkor Z 180-600 as my next lens.

Yes. I just bought the 500mm pf lens, granted used but if new at same price, I'd get it.

I'd also be open to getting:

58 1.4

105 1.4

200 f2

180-400

NikonRumors also published the supposed list of discounted lenses and prices.

Lens - Price - Rebate - Final

AF-S NIKKOR 180-400mm f/4E TC FL ED VR $12,397 $4,400 $7,997

AF-S NIKKOR 400mm f/2.8E FL ED VR $11,197 $3,300 $7,897

AF-S NIKKOR 500mm f/4E FL ED VR $10,297 $3,000 $7,297

AF-S NIKKOR 600mm f/4E FL ED VR $12,297 $3,600 $8,697

AF-S NIKKOR 800mm f/5.6E FL ED VR $16,297 $4,800 $11,497

AF-S NIKKOR 28mm f/1.4E ED $1,997 $600 $1,397

AF-S NIKKOR 58mm f/1.4G $1,597 $440 $1,157

AF-S NIKKOR 85mm f/1.4G $1,597 $440 $1,157

So discounts supposedly amount to 25-30%, which is big.

Wow that is a big savings but most are waiting for 50-75% off then they will get excited.. I own all of them and paid full retail for all..

I was hoping the 19mm PC-E would be on the list, but unfortunately it's not. Discounts still leave the exotics outside my justification window.

But yes, if the exotic teles dropped to $5k new, I'm there for one. Or two.

besides the holy lenses like the 105 f/1.4E and the 70-200 f/2.8E VR II, probably not. Even those, I doubt I'd shell out the cash to buy them.

I already have the lenses I need (which I bought used). None of them need replacing and the only "right" price would be if you were giving them out for free.

I have a combination of F and Z-mount lens and bodies. I bought the 70-200 F2.8 FL F-mount at the last sale to compliment my 200-500 to create a two lens D500 wildlife kit.

I've read the 70-200 FL isn't much different optically than the Z version and buying the Z version meant it wouldn't be backwards compatible with DSLR's. I can always run the FTZ adapter if I wanted to use the 70-200 FL on my Z bodies.

I don't shoot professionally, so I don't require clinical sharpness in my photos and one of the reasons I haven't sold off all my F-mount gear yet. I like all the focal length and f-stop options that F-mount glass provides.

No. I wouldn't but F mount, for no other reason than they would almost assuredly be sold out to all you before they dropped to the price I would consider paying for them.

The 8-15 would definitely interest me

Not unless I have to. The F mount lenses that I owned when I used a DSLR have been replaced by their Z mount counterparts. Unless I need a lens not yet made for Z, and it will aid in my business, I want Z mount lenses for my Z mount cameras. Exceptions would be a tilt-shift, or a 300 f2.8. But right now I don't need either of those lenses. For me, money is not the issue.

I just saw the discounted prices and the savings are significant. This could really affect secondhand prices. I sold all my F lenses except for the 8-15, 200 f2, 300 f2.8, and 500 f4VR while they still fetched a reasonable price.

It could be very attractive for those still using SLR's with no plans to move completely to the Z system.
