Anyone know what the problem is with the supplies of this battery? I can't get any information from my local Canon.

General chip shortage? Global recession? War in Ukraine? All of the above?

I'm looking at non-Canon alternatives but would prefer the original.

I don't have the answer for any of that :(

If your camera's warranty (typically a year) specifically states that it will be void if any third party parts caused damage to it, then I would wait to only buy the Canon batteries. If your camera's warranty is up, then I wouldn't hesitate to buy reputable third party batteries, at least for the meantime. I use Wasabi batteries in my Canon 6D with no issues whatsoever:

Supplies of this battery have been short for almost forever. Maybe it has a lot to do with the overall demand for batteries for everything from toys to cameras to electric cars. Anyway, if you are in the USA, check less obvious places such as Crutchfield or Best Buy. I've bought two LP-E6NH batteries from Best Buy in the past six weeks.

The only non-Canon alternatives I'd try right now is the Neewer. It's sold as a set of 2 with a USB-C charger, has good user reviews.

B&H is reporting them in stock as of 2015 hrs EDT on 9/4/22..
