Some of you folks should log off the computer and go outside to take some pictures. Somewhere remote. Away from other people.

Read this on social media and had a laugh.

"Anyone know or is anyone a wedding photographer and needing a 2nd photographer.

I have recently started a business (photography) but want to get practice in seeing how weddings are done."

Haha Don, you're a fun guy and it's been fun to read the responses of the touchy. You do have a way of getting them out of the woodwork. How obtuse must people be not to spot someone is calling themselves a professional without such basic experience in the profession? Maybe you have disturbed a nest of wannabees ;)
Who's touchy?
That's perfect!

I bet you don't even get the joke you just made, which almost everyone will see, either

;)

Talk about the cart before the horse.

He should start a Youtube channel first.
She :-) exactly.

Don
Do all photographers make fun of new photographers or is it just DPR posters?
Nothing wrong with being a new photographer.

Everything wrong with starting a business selling services you have no experience providing.

She should learn to shoot and then start the business later. What she's doing now is damn near fraud. Would you pay someone who's never used a camera to be the lead shooter at your wedding?

And here we have another person who pretends to know things they obviously don't.

Once (if capable) common sense is applied, you might realize this could be a professional with a portrait business who wants to learn weddings.

That wouldn't make you guys feel better about your own skills though. Best to make up facts about fraud, and not knowing how to use a camera.

; )

Not a very good joke. Are you a professional comedian wannabe?

If you want to be a wedding photographer, or many other things for that matter, commit yourself to watch a month's worth of YouTube, 40 hours a week, and in a month your ready.
LOL! :-):-):-) This made my day; a bit too late but it did!
I'm glad I could add some value to your day with my opinion! :-)

Until you try it like I did you will never really know exactly what you can, or cannot, accomplish as a result of your time investment. Of course you need to be a person who knows how to learn through that medium in all fairness.

People learn in different ways which I accept.
Well, this is not what you said originally. You pretty much said that you must watch YouTube to learn something.

How sophisticated you need to be to "know how to learn through that medium" if you force yourself to use it?

sorry dont agree, when i started out in the yachting world then to become a ships captain. i studied at nautical/aviation school for 6 years, at the same time i built a 35 foot yacht to commercial survey. then i approached a well known yacht to joining as crew as completed theory ocean masters course. so they excepted me as navigator. then when't on to solo sailing my first 10,000 miles on my own yacht (practical experience) to then holding a full qualification. then sat a few more courses and worked as a paid skipper of yachts up to 90 ft then applying for my commercial license . then i built a 47 foot ocean survey yacht and started my "own" business. as i said no pain no gain. just get off your behind is how you make it, not sucking up to someone else.

@Donald B

For millennia, students have acquired knowledge and skill by working with someone possessing master skills in their chosen field of endeavor. This has been true not only in the trades but also for artists, philosophers, writers, scientists, warriors, etc. Why shouldn't this approach apply to wedding photographers?

This is a proven and practical way to learn and then demonstrate competence that usually exceeds individual study and personal experimentation alone.

You say in your DPR Profile that you are a carpenter. This is a set of skills that I admire and respect a great deal. When you were learning, did you ever work with a carpenter of greater skill to learn and then demonstrate your competence?

You state in the above quoted/highlighted excerpt from your experience that you took an apprenticeship of sorts for a period in your yachting pursuits. It seems that was an essential part of developing your mastery.

By the way, your poor grammar, spelling, and punctuation combined are a major distraction to conveying your message in a convincing way. But maybe English is not your first language.

Of course not, he taught himself.

Otherwise, after saying this, he'd look like a total fool:
second shooter LOL learn by your self.

Sneering and derision are poor substitutes for recognition or encouragement. Don't you know that...by now?

So...

Are you going tell your daughter "medical intern. LOL learn by yourself" ?

Or does your insecure arrogance not include ridiculing your supposed med student?
you have lost the plot, or didnt you know they study first before the practice not the other way round. you must be the new world i was talking about. as an old boss used to say "are you here with the solution or are you part of the problem"

Okay... maybe it'll help if I type slower...

So after she studies and is then required to follow doctors for a few years during her residency (internship), are you going to laugh and tell her to learn by herself ?

That would be as stupid as laughing at a second shooter. Especially since it is a very common way for photographers to learn weddings.
