Do all photographers make fun of new photographers or is it just DPR posters?
I tend to agree with the tone of the thread. It's like saying, hey I just started a plumbing business but I'd like to find an experienced plumber to follow around so I can learn how to install a new faucet. Seems like photography is one of the only trades where one thinks buying a fancy camera will give them instant access to making big bucks.
I have a great nephew who is now a licensed electrician. Guess how he started.
Yup, following around a licensed electrician until he had the knowledge/met requirements in his state to get his license.
So did he establish a business first? I'm guessing not.
The OP stated the person started a business and wants to learn weddings. That's all we know. They might just want to expand their business to include photography.
I started a service business (not photography related) 29 years ago.
About 20 years ago a customer knew I was a computer geek and asked if I knew anything about websites as they wanted to set up a website.
Nope, I didn't know a thing about websites but give me a week to set something up. I learned everything I could in that week and had a website up and running at the end of the week. They were happy and paid me, still pay me about 3,500 bucks a year for that site.
Same thing with event photography, had a customer who knew I enjoyed taking photos and asked me if I'd shoot their big company 2 day event. Sure, 20 years later I'm still doing it along with events for other people and various other types of photography for customers of my main business. Didn't have a clue how to shoot an event that big.
In my main business I get all kinds of requests for jobs I have no idea how to do. When times were tough I said yes to every one of them and figured it out. I have never failed. Many times I would tell my wife I took on a new job and she would ask do I know how to do it? Nope, but we're going to learn and make some money.
Point is, everyone starts somewhere and I don't get all the hate for the simple request in the OP.
