my 16 yo daughter still has 2 years left at high school and is planning a double degree in Medicine and teaching
...
second shooter LOL learn by your self
So...

Are you going tell your daughter "medical intern. LOL learn by yourself" ?

Or does your insecure arrogance not include ridiculing your supposed med student?
you have lost the plot, or didnt you know they study first before the practice not the other way round. you must be the new world i was talking about. as an old boss used to say "are you here with the solution or are you part of the problem"

Don
Okay... maybe it'll help if I type slower...

So after she studies and is then required to follow doctors for a few years during her residency (internship), are you going to laugh and tell her to learn by herself ?
You cannot become a doctor unless you watch YouTube videos. :-)
That would be as stupid as laughing at a second shooter. Especially since it is a very common way for photographers to learn weddings.

After not 1 response from any photographers. a new post can anyone show me some kids out door shots please. LOL. so i was right in the first place no idea.
Would somebody translate this from Australian to English?

So you're trying to save face based on the lashing you received for your arrogance...

or you're sitting online ridiculing some woman because you think you're better than her.

It's one or the other.

Which one?

...do you keep mockingly transcribing the efforts of this human being to advance herself the best (...even if the only....) way she can?

Do you have any idea of how many well established and respected professional photographers started out as assistants or apprentices?

I've seen posts before asking 'What kind of camera do I need to shoot weddings professionally? or 'I want to be a Pro Wedding Photographer, what kind of camera should I buy?'

I think that it is indeed a reaction to the first post

Why would you assume otherwise?

If you want to be a wedding photographer, or many other things for that matter, commit yourself to watch a month's worth of YouTube, 40 hours a week, and in a month your ready.
LOL! :-):-):-) This made my day; a bit too late but it did!
I'm glad I could add some value to your day with my opinion! :-)

Until you try it like I did you will never really know exactly what you can, or cannot, accomplish as a result of your time investment. Of course you need to be a person who knows how to learn through that medium in all fairness.

People learn in different ways which I accept.
Well, this is not what you said originally. You pretty much said that you must watch YouTube to learn something.

How sophisticated you need to be to "know how to learn through that medium" if you force yourself to use it?
I said "if" then "commit" and "you'll be ready".

Commit means "do".

Must means "had to".

My apologies if you are a foreign speaker for my use of precise English.

Read this on social media and had a laugh.

"Anyone know or is anyone a wedding photographer and needing a 2nd photographer."
That sounds reasonable. It's a time-honored way to learn something.
Not that you'd know it. Screeching millenials are now demanding to be paid for internships, even though it's technically just an extension of school. Entitled little brats.
I know one particular company that runs on internships, 25 'employees' and 20 of them are unpaid interns, not a bad business model if you don't have a conscience.
Have to know more about the situation but I'd say it's unsustainable, unless they had something really exceptional to offer the unpaid.
They've 'sustained it' for 20 yrs, they offer 'experience'. they have a steady procession of interns pushed through from local universities(not that anyone at the uni gets any kickbacks, honest) they usually stay 3-4 months. My daughter worked there for a week.....
Then I would say they have to have something working for them otherwise it wouldn't have lasted 20 years, university influence or not.

You said "if you want to be a wedding photographer" … "commit yourself". It is a simple logics statement which implies that if you do not commit, you will not be a wedding photographer.
My apologies if you are a foreign speaker for my use of precise English.
Your English is fine, AFAICT but your logic is lacking.

I am Australian too. Some of us are actually quite capable of writing intelligibly in the English language. What Donald comes out with is neither Australian nor English.
have a few beers :-)
You mean you had a few beers? At least that would explain it.
After not 1 response from any photographers on facebook. got that ?
Yes. Still poorly written, but I get your meaning.
she posted a second request ? got that ?
Yes. Ditto.
can anyone post some images of kids out-doors . got that ?
Yes. Ditto. But we don't know why she is asking for these images.
is that any better ? she obviously has NO experience, got that ?
No. That doesn't follow at all. Unless there is some additional information you are not sharing about why she is asking for these images, the simple fact that she has asked for them tells us nothing about her experience. Members on here regularly start threads asking others to share images of certain subjects. In the absence of additional information, you seem simply to be casting judgemental aspersions again.

How about you share a link to the Facebook page this is appearing on, or a screenshot (with names removed if appropriate). That would be much more useful than your semi-literate distorted paraphrasing.

sorry im not that stupid, so you can track the original, been there done that. so i slightly altered the wording just for that reason :-)

Talk about the cart before the horse.

He should start a Youtube channel first.
She :-) exactly.

Don
Do all photographers make fun of new photographers or is it just DPR posters?
I tend to agree with the tone of the thread. It's like saying, hey I just started a plumbing business but I'd like to find an experienced plumber to follow around so I can learn how to install a new faucet. Seems like photography is one of the only trades where one thinks buying a fancy camera will give them instant access to making big bucks.
I have a great nephew who is now a licensed electrician. Guess how he started.

Yup, following around a licensed electrician until he had the knowledge/met requirements in his state to get his license.
So did he establish a business first? I'm guessing not.
The OP stated the person started a business and wants to learn weddings. That's all we know. They might just want to expand their business to include photography.

I started a service business (not photography related) 29 years ago.

About 20 years ago a customer knew I was a computer geek and asked if I knew anything about websites as they wanted to set up a website.

Nope, I didn't know a thing about websites but give me a week to set something up. I learned everything I could in that week and had a website up and running at the end of the week. They were happy and paid me, still pay me about 3,500 bucks a year for that site.

Same thing with event photography, had a customer who knew I enjoyed taking photos and asked me if I'd shoot their big company 2 day event. Sure, 20 years later I'm still doing it along with events for other people and various other types of photography for customers of my main business. Didn't have a clue how to shoot an event that big.

In my main business I get all kinds of requests for jobs I have no idea how to do. When times were tough I said yes to every one of them and figured it out. I have never failed. Many times I would tell my wife I took on a new job and she would ask do I know how to do it? Nope, but we're going to learn and make some money.

Point is, everyone starts somewhere and I don't get all the hate for the simple request in the OP.
i specialize in building staircases and im one of the best in the country at it :-) and have a portfolio to die for :-) good on you for giving anything a go.

Don

did I say I was just a carpenter ?

What's the problem?
Yes I don’t get it either.

i read it as someone who is confident in his skills as a photographer has decided to monetize his skills and is looking to add wedding photography to his repertoire.

OP read it with a grumpy old man filter on, that’s the problem.
no skills already looked into that, grumpy LOL i had a good laugh ,cart before the horse syndrome, hey i have a new ff camera i must be good, hey look my backgrounds are oof and half a head in focus. hey look i have tilted the image how arty an I LOL .

They don't know how to shoot a wedding and want to be a second shooter. Not an assistant. A shooter. And they just decided to start a photography business. So I suppose they might expect to get paid. I think most second shooters do, even if minimally. But based on what body of work, particularly dealing with photographing people in a unique event and under a significant time constraint. And being a brand new business owner (maybe) are they going to be able to stick to the schedule the primary has to follow, or will they be faffing off to shoot their own gigs, or work whatever other job they may still hold. And of course, they apparently don't already know any wedding photographers that would work with them. And they don't know what info to offer up in such a request to make it seem feasible. Plus, what happens when it comes to owning, editing, and sharing the photos, do they know yet how to navigate that, since it directly impacts the other photographer.

The issue is the powerful indication that this person is asking to bite off too much, and at the potential detriment of the photographer who allows them to do it at one of their booked weddings. With everything else involved in shooting a wedding and delivering final images, will a photographer entertain a request presented in such a way.
Amazing what this forum can conclude from one out of context sentence/request.
I know right! I've just read through the whole thread - classic DPR, filled with judgements and whinges about younger generations and bickering about spelling.

The person in the ad quoted by Sailor Don says nothing about the type of business or their experience, but that is enough for some people to start running off with their dismissive judgements. Confused Circle has the person fully characterised as lazy, disorganised, irresponsible, incompetent and unrealistic to the point of being delusional. Brilliant stuff!

For all we know, the would-be wedding photographer may be a person of the calibre of Sailor Don and his daughter - that would surely make them a force to be reckoned with!
they would if they had posted at least 1 image ,or at least had some images to show ,but they had diddly squat.
