Is there no way to WiFi tether from the A7III/A7RIII to a Mac? I haven't found any solution at all... In fact, I can't even get the wired tethering to work in any capacity.

Ultimately, we need to use Lightroom and have tethering. We would be happy with an auto/watch folder setup.

You can use the FTP Transfer function.

What software are you using for wired tethering?
We don't have any internet connection where we need to tether, so I don't think FTP is going to work...

We tried using C1 Express for Sony, but you need to purchase the full version for that to work, and we're not interested in C1. Like I said, we really need this to work within Lightroom, even as a watch folder if need be.

FTP can run on a local network, even if it is a travel router. Setting up a FTP server may be a bit more complicated than you're looking for.

Sony's Imaging Edge will do wired tethering.

Set up the import folder here:

You know, this was the very first app I tried, and I could never get it to connect, even after following the guides. I've even tried both USB-C and Micro USB :(

There is a confirmed issue in which this message appears and the computer cannot connect to the camera when you launch Remote on a Mac computer while Dropbox or Google Backup and Sync or Adobe Lightroom Classic CC or Capture One Pro is running. If this issue occurs, please quit these programs and wait for about a minute. Then, launch Remote again.
Don't know if this helps. If not, I'm all out of ideas.

This actually did help... The stupid app requires to use USB 2.0 instead of 3.1 as a starting point, which, on a MPB means finding a USB2.0 hub type device. Then I had to close Dropbox, OneDrive, Google Drive, Adobe CC, ( I know, this is getting ridiculous) and disable Apple photos... Then, and only then will it engage. Quite a lot of hoops jump through just for simple tethering.

I tether to our Macs using a TetherPro USB 3.o https://www.tethertools.com/product/tetherpro-usb-to-usb-c/ and https://www.tethertools.com/product/tetherpro-usb-3-0-superspeed-active-extension-cable/. You will need this combination for the flexibility of moving around without disconnecting the camera. Also, Mac USB ports do not provide enough power to transfer files and use live view without the "active" extension cable.

Next as you do not want to buy C1 Pro for Sony, you will need to use Sony's Imaging Edge's Remote to run the camera. Create a folder on your Mac in which to "always" store captured images. Be sure the camera is set to "PC Remote" in the USB setup menu.

Next, in Lightroom Classic or ???, go to File/Auto Import/Enable Auto Import. Next File/Auto Import/Auto Import Settings/ and use this screen capture as a guide for setting your own settings;

By creating a "Watched Folder" Lightroom will monitor your "Capture" folder and import to a designated location any file the shows up in the "Watched Folder".

Granted this screen capture is for my PC but I use the same settings for the Macs.

This should do it. Been doing this for years without issue.

I have a follow-up on this, hope you're still monitoring this post...I have set up the tethering with the auto-import box checked in lightroom classic cc but every time I take a picture the import dialogue box appears which I have to cancel away each time to see the photo in the lightroom viewing (library) mode...

Any idea how I stop the import dialogue box from appearing each time?
