A7III SD card problems

Created an acount here for the exact same problem.

We just received an a7iii and are having issues with the SanDisk 128GB ending with 766G.
Yup, known compatibility issue. So far nobody has confirmed having a 766G work in slot 1 yet, versus dozens who have verified that combination as incompatible.
I presume you guys are also Canadian and bought the card on Amazon during the recent sale @ 50$!

The card works perfectly on PCs or our T4i.

I am seriously questioning if the card is the issue or reader on the camera.
It's the card and the camera combination. If it were just the camera, then we would have issues with all cards. Most other versions of the same card work without issues though.
Having spent 3.1k on the camera, this really sucks!

It's also very finicky with charging. We're unable to charge the camera via micro-usb on an Anker block, but USB-C works fine.
I don't think it's supposed to be able to charge over micro USB, as that doesn't support power delivery, but I could be wrong.
One thing I have noticed is that the camera is on firmware 1.01 yet the Sony website shows firmware 2.00 . Once the battery is full I will try updating the firmware in the hopes it resolves the issues.
I wouldn't get your hopes up ;)
The camera comes with a MicroUSB Cable, and the manual states:

Use the USB cable (supplied) or a USB-standard cable.
• The charging time will be the same if you use a USB Type-C cable.

Updating firmware didn't change anything. We setup the camera to use slot 2 with that card.
Sony is aware of the issue

If we're at a point where all we have are 32gb card with speeds of 80 and 95mbps, what larger cards with faster transfer speeds have been problem free for people who don't want to wait for Sony's solution. I'm finding my cards slow when I save to both extra fine jpg + compressed RAW.

Good question

Do you think Sony are hoping you buy their cards instead. You wouldn’t think Sony would release a camera without testing with own cards .

I bought a 128g sony card which seems to be working. The 128g Sandisk wont work in slot 1.

Given its a card camera combo issue I am not expecting a fix until sony and sandisk finish pointing fingers.

This suck a fat one but I am gratefull I can chalk this up to a first world problem.

....and even with Sony cards people have had difficulties.

I'm trying to be proactive with the cards I'm jusing by ALWAYS copying the files to a directory in my computer and not editing the images on the card and saving to them while I work with them on the computer.

I've shot with the A7RIII & A7III since early Jan. Using Sony branded 128gb cards in both slots on each camera. Pricey but, so far, no issues, shooting 1000's of files/week. Shoot raw, compressed & uncompressed, redundant copy from card-to-card, never shoot raw+jpg. Don't delete images on card. Download images to Mac, then format in-camera before next assignment. Knock on wood!

I stand corrected... Or rather, educated. To be honest, I gave up on charging in camera after doing it once and seeing how long it takes.

If I can add my ha'porth, the Sandisk 128GB extreme 90MB/s SDXC I use is labelled . . . 822G made in China and it works in slot 1 of the A73.

So what are you charging with and how long does it take?

This is the first time I haven't bought an external charger and I sure don't like not having access to the camera while it's tied up charging a battery.

Something exactly like this: NP-FZ100 Dual Battery Charger

Basically takes a couple of hours to charge two batteries.

it makes me afraid to use it!

I am in different scenario. I have two Sony OEM chargers, one from A7r III and one from A9 package respectively. I noticed USB cable charge didn't charge thoroughly as OEM charger. I thought to buy such third-party dual charger for traveling but gave up just for peace of mind and rather carrying two Sony chargers if necessary. Sony charger charged reasonable fast and also thoroughly that you will see all three lights turn to green and then completely off to indicate the battery is fully charged.

I get that. I personally draw the line at non-OEM batteries, and refuse to even try them in my camera. For a charger though, the worst that can happen is it destroys an OEM battery, then I know. So far, it's been great though.

I've been using my A7III with a new Lexar 1000x 128Gb UHS ii card for a few weeks now, and have had major problems. At three weddings now the exact same thing happens... I get to a certain part of the day when the card is roughly 1/3 full, then the camera says "Unable to read memory card. Reinsert Memory card."

I'll do that, then it asks if I want to recover the database. I select okay, but then it usually fails to recover the database.

I'll pull the card and reinsert, try again, and after a few tries it usually is finally able to recover the database, and I can shoot... For maybe an image or two, then it all happens again.

Last night I repeated this entire process about 6 times before giving up and using an older slower card.

I just ordered a Sony SF-G 128Gb for the camera, and I'm going to be very upset if the problem is with the camera and not the card.

Has anyone here experienced this?
Since early January, for my A7III & A7RIII, I am using for both cameras;

In slot-1, Sony 128GB SF-G Series UHS-II SDXC Memory Card for $250@(!)

In slot-2, Sony 128GB High Speed Class 10 UHS-I SDXC U3 Memory Card for $93@.

Never had a problem

$250? You overpaid. My first one is from A9 package as a gift from B&H when I traded-in A7 II. I bought 2nd one at $209 last year from BuyDig.
In slot-2, Sony 128GB High Speed Class 10 UHS-I SDXC U3 Memory Card for $93@.
I bought "Sony 128GB M Series UHS-II SDXC Memory Card Kit (2-Pack)" ($160 now in B&H, so only $80 each which is 260 R/100 W. I put SF-G in slot 1 and SF-M in slot 2 in A7r III and A9 respectively with redundant RAW files to two cards simultaneously. In airshow, however, I shot in single Slot 1 mode on A9 for the max write and clean speed and I use upto all four 128GB cards. Found SF-M card actually is fast enough at 10fps on A9 but SF-G does clean buffer noticeably faster.
Never had a problem
Me too, actually never have any issues in all Sony, Canon DSLRs, Nikon (D50) with various brands of SD and CF cards over a decade. Call me lucky :-)

This is an old thread. I've since gotten rid of the lexar cards. I have been using the two absolute fastest cards possible for each slot; 128Gb Sony SF-G UHS-II 300mbs for slot one, and the SanDisk Extreme Pro 95MBs slot 2. I haven't had a single issue with either yet.

I'm having this issue with Sandisk and PNY cards. Just ordered a Sony card to see if that helps. When shooting S&Q I get the issue frequently and if I am shooting on burst it will tend to keep buffering and be stuck on an image and then the camera screen will freeze up and the camera will reboot itself and ask if I want to try to recover the data.
