I have an 18-135 USM (came with my 80D), which has a lens hood included EW-73D).

I am about to get a 70-300 IS II USM.

The 'correct' hood for a 70-300 is an ET-74B, but would an EW-73D fit? I know it looks different, but Canon want a silly amount of money for the 'official' one.

If the hood from the 18-135 doesn't work, what is a good make of hood to go for at a reasonable price?

Thanks!

Solution
The number in a Canon lens hood is the diameter of the mount. Probably won’t fit.

Amazon sells third party hoods for much less than Canon pricing.

I'm happy with the Promaster hood I bought for my 18-135 USM.

You'll want the different shape for the longer lens. No need for petals at 70mm.

Thanks,

I've found some on Amazon (and eBay) for considerably less than a Canon one.

You'll be fine with a 3rd party hood though some are better than others. Canon won't even make hoods usable on a lens upgrade. I have to original 55-250, the hood from that won't fit the 55-250 STM.

Hello Sneezy24, I have the same question you had 7 mo ago... Does the EW-73D fits the 70-300 IS II lens? I live in Brazil and it's almost impossible here to find a ET-74B.... Thanks a lot.

I recently bought this lens and bought the appropriate Velo hood for it; works fine and has a "lock" like the Canon hood. You can find the Velo hood number on B&H by looking at hood accessories for the lens.
