How far until we are at peak mirrorless?

How many years do you think we are off?

We've hit peak DSLR already.

What do you see as insufficient with even the best of the current mirrorless bodies and what should be improved?

It's a bold statement claiming DSLR's won't improve now..

Hard to improve on virtually unlimited dynamic range / resolution optical viewfinder which shows the scene in real time in matching brightness while using zero power.

Will EVF's ever be that good? "Oh, with advancements blah blah blah in a couple of years they'll be at least that good!" (At least as good as reality...)

The 1910 Baker Electric car has about the same mileage range per charge as some electric cars do now, over a century later. You'd think the new ones would be going 10x farther.

Urk. Not sure why a question is considered toxic. Do tell about what improvements you'd like to see in DSLRs. We'd love to hear it.
A quick flip through your posts shows that you're basically an anti-DSLR mirrorless booster fanboy. We've seen hundreds like you and the last of them is as tiresome as the first.

As if you really want to see 'what improvements DSLR users want'.

We've hit peak DSLR. Both Nikon and Canon know this.

The musk of desperation is especially strong on Canon; it's why they're releasing all those controlled leaks ("Canon high end mirrorless already in pro's hands" etc.). As for Nikon, here's how pathetic they've become : they release firmware updates that block autofocus on Sigma lenses.

Regarding peak mirrorless, the sky's the limit. We already have 20FPS Sonys, while the Canikosaurus flagships have stagnated in the teens.

I've got no intent on entertaining your silly childish games. What gravitas have you got in the photography business to claim DSLR's will no longer improve? None. What factual evidence have you got to back up that statement? None. Heck, what intellect or images have you ever contributed to these forums to give people any basis to listen to your thoughts or opinions? I'll have a guess here; none.

You've started this thread with the sole intention of triggering DSLR users, and everyone has seen straight through it. Now run along you cretinous little child.

Why don't you humor me? So far I haven't insulted you or trolled you, so what's to lose from you putting in your 2 cents?

MILF is just an excuse for manufacturers and some sheep users to get people to reopen their wallets and “upgrade” their tools. People’s current tools (dslrs) are and have been working so well and I don’t see it suddenly not working in the future.

"We" have been peak at talking about it for a long time. Or, some of us have. It seems generally predicated on some inner suspicion of inferiority that gnaws away at mirrorless shoppers that leads them to talk them up more than actually use them.

I don't think MILF has much to do with cameras.

Perhaps, but I'm more into my favorite MILF than I am into photography.

What do you see as insufficient with even the best of the current mirrorless bodies and what should be improved?
Ergonomics primarily. The manufacturers want to make "sexy" instead of functional.

Also, the A7R III seems to be the only one that possibly has reasonable battery life and even that might not be as claimed.

AF needs to improve.

I'm not familiar with just how good EVF's have got, but they need to be incredible if they are to be used all day, every day to avoid eye strain. They also need to have zero lag. Are they there yet?

They've always been there if you listen to the mirrorless fanboys. Except when you come to try the mirrorless out, they have the same old problems, just perhaps to a lesser degree. I've stopped trying them out now. When they've truly pushed these inherent problems down by degree to negligible effect, is going to be many years in the future and there is going to be much less controversy about it.

Bottom line now to me is that mirrorless is for people who like WYSIWYG, video and fooling around with old lenses more than the best AF tracking, battery life and usually ergonomics. If you blast away at indoor action there's still no reason to pay attention to mirrorless.

What would be nice is if the mirrorless kids would learn some humility and stop trying to tell the old hands that their new gadget outdoes established DSLRs for everything based on what they read on a spec sheet. It's ridiculous to act like something they only read trumps experience.

..... successfully use mirrorless cameras without having the problems that you seem to be unable to get around.

Both DSLRs and Mirrorless cameras are more than capable of delivering the highest quality results demanded by the most quality-oriented applications. Assuming that the person using them has talent and knows how to operate them. If you can't, I'd suggest that the limiting factor is YOU, rather than any inherent limitations of mirrorless cameras. The reality is, EVERY major photographic system has at the upper echelons of their product lines, cameras and lenses that exceed the capabilities of 99.99% of all those photographers who would wish to use them.

I assume you mean interchangeable lens cameras. After all, mirrorless includes cellphones and we are there right now, certainly hundreds of millions of units sold, if not billions.
