Slow iPhones or Android security risk?

Would anyone prefer a slow iPhone or a phone which is after 24 months becomes unpatchable from a lack of updates from the manufacturer? Lots of Android phones are a security risk. Nobody is going to patch those old phones only new 3 years ago.

I have received Android 8.0 with January 2018 Security Update today for my Xperia X Compact.

I was very happy about my iphone 5 it worked great. But after the updates of the newest ios. It works like hell. It's buggish. I loved that phone but now it's crap because of the updates.

We've become a "throw away" culture, whether it's a washing machine or mobile phone. It's just way it is. We are long time iPhone users and I've never considered ours slow. Last fall we both upgraded to iPhone 8+ and the new camera features are outstanding. Yup, pricey but think about it - - you have a computer, great camera and a phone in your pocket plus when we sent our old iPhones in we received a very nice cash rebate. The "old days" of a Maytag washing machine and a phone lasting 16 years are long gone, sadly.
Regarding the Maytag: not quite. Our old Maytag is a beast and having someone repair it twice, their comments were that these older washers are built better than the newer digital ones and easy to repair. The new ones are digital and there is no repair to that system..just replace at a very expensive cost. It's the same with many cars as with many made before the in dash digi electronics/nav system, those are painfully expensive to repair/replace. Been there, done that with iPhones and their way too many problems with upgrades and poor (non user replaceable) batteries. And Siri and I never did hit it off..lol.

Never buy version 1.0 of anything.
Don't it always seem to go

Pixel 2 and 2XL 3 years updates, security patches every month, best camera on any phone right now.
Eh, that means android needs updating so often while iOS doesn't
It is always good to get security updates, be it when its needed or monthly.
Yes, the RedFox88 comment was hopelessly naive.

Every vendor has vulnerabilities that are discovered later. No code is perfect.

On iOS 11, for months the calculator would actually do math incorrectly, for example. I believe that bug is finally patched though.
