Settings Reverting

Hello,

I think I am missing something very simple here. I have just switched from a Mirrorless Camera to a Canon DSLR. Still playing around in auto mode as I slowly get used to the change.

Everytime I turn on the camera, settings seem to revert to default. So in auto mode, flash is also set to auto. I have to go into the flash settings to disable the flash so it won't fire. How do I make this setting stick? This is a Canon EOS 77d.

Thank you.

Don't use Auto.

At most use P mode, which is fully automatic, but allows you a lot more control.

I have never used full Auto, so I really can't comment on what you are seeing, but I would suggest trying P mode with a carefully set up Auto-ISO (limit ISO to 1600 max. etc) and see how you go.

Thanks Colin. I have never used P mode previously. Just played a little with it now. Already loving it. :-) I don't think I am going back to auto.

I usually run my cameras in A (aperture priority), or P (program mode), occasionally T (shutter priority). I rarely (if ever) use Auto Mode.

[PS, this is in the Lens forum, might have been better placed in the relevant camera forum.]

Hi CPFan. Thanks for pointing out I am in the wrong forum. I am new here, and missed the lens in the forum name and thought it was a general Canon DSLR forum, non-model specific. :-)
