I haven't used the camera about 2 weeks and when i pulled it out few days ago from my bag it was dead. Ok no problem I though...

Well... ALL my settings were reset. Freaking great.. never had this issue with any other camera ever.

Mostly what is annoying is to set C1 C2 etc custom settings. :/

Camera settings are stored in memory that requires power, not much power but not zero either. That power comes from a small rechargeable battery which gets its charge from the main camera battery. If the main camera battery is dead or missing then the power to the memory will eventually fail (about 2 weeks apparently) and you will have effectively performed a factory reset of the camera.

I don't know if you could call it 'strange' since it comes up so often. More like 'familiar'. These cameras likely just have a capacitor to retain settings while the battery is out, or, as in your case, if a battery is in but is dead. The usual complaint is that someone left a camera sitting with no battery and now all the settings are gone.

I don't suppose you set the AUTO POWER OFF setting to OFF and accidentally left it turned on in your bag by any chance?

Might be an excellent opportunity to share the process for saving all your settings. I've seen it in a few threads recently, but had a little trouble finding it. Anyone have a link or a brief recap of the process to follow? If this happens, it could be a real life saver (or at least a time saver).

I think I did actually but the camera wasn't on in the bag when I pulled it out

The new Version 3.0 firmware upgrade allows you to save the camera settings to your computer. You do need to download and install the (free) Fujifilm X Acquire software to allow you to connect your camera to your computer for the file transfer. While not as convenient as backup to a SD card, which you can carry with you, it will save your settings.

You can also use it to clone the settings to another XT2.
No luck getting any of that to work. Hooked up the camera to the USB port but the Acquire app never sees it. Pretty sure I have the settings correct, but can't figure out what I did wrong. Any advice/suggestions welcome. I'd really like to find a way to archive my settings just in case...

In the Tools menu group, did you go into the PC CONNECTION MODE menu? If it is set to USB CARD READER, Acquire will report "no camera"; this choice is for when you plug in a USB cable and use Windows or Fuji FInePix to download image files. If however it is set to BACKUP/RESTORE..., then Acquire should see the camera and let you back up your settings.

Good judgment comes from experience
Experience comes from bad judgment
I have been experimenting with it and think that this will work: (Windows 10 Home)

1. In the camera's wrench menu in the Connection Setting make sure that the 'PC Connection Mode' is set to USB RAW CONV. BACKUP RESTORE.

2. Connect to the PC. I found that the USB-3 cable needed to be firmly plugged into the camera. The greenn file write LED will be on solid.

3. Turn on the camera and the LED will begin to blink.

4. Start Acquire, and it should show up in the task bar. Be sure to check in the "hidden icons" area of the task bar for it.

5. If the icon is there and is not blue, try double clicking on it and the choices should all be available.

6. Do your backup.

7. When finished, exit the program. The camera's LED will continue to blink until you turn off the camera.

Hope this works for you!

Ron.

Just a couple of comments. First, camera companies tend to be pretty clueless when it comes to software. Second, not all USB cables are created equal, is everyone using the cable that came with the camera?
+100 to your first point. :-) Not sure if I'm using the original cable or not, but I've used it with the camera in the past and experienced no issues.

I guess I've seen to many horror stories where a weak battery or other issue has resulted in erasure of settings. I'd hate to have to go back and recreate my camera's settings from memory (which at my age ain't so great). Thus, the idea of backing all that up is really appealing. Just wish I could figure out a way to get this *&^% thing to work (not that I'm frustrated or anything). :-)

Ron,

Excellent!

Followed exactly the different steps, then worked perfectly

Many many many thx for excellent help.

Since IMHO the way to go is far from obvious I would suggest you post the different steps in a dedicated thread as a memory for all of us

Again thx

Bob

Jerry,

I'm having same problem. Downloaded the app and it shows up under "Devices" but never opens. When I connect my X-T2 I get a message on the Mac that I need to configure "PC Connection Mode" on camera which I've tried the different options with no success.

Do you get the "X-Acquire" app to open on your Mac?

Seems this isn't quite ready for prime time.

Bob

Edit;

The X-Acquire app shows up under devices on my Mac but I can't eject it or even force an eject. I wanted to trash it and start over but now that doesn't appear to be an option.
