I agree. This is a usability issue that can hopefully be addressed in a future firmware update.
The X-T2 has its complexities and quirks but, it seems like it has the flexibility to workaround any problems I've encountered. For example, I had an issue where using auto white balance resulted in the view screen and previews taking on a distinctly pink hue. After much tinkering around in the menu, I figured out that it was the auto white balance adjustment. I thought it was ok but it happened again and I figured out I had used it by accidentally pressing the F3 button when using the joystick to reformat an SD (joystick to the right made it maximum red). Anyway, I've reprogrammed the F3 to something else and haven't had the problem since. I can't think of any other camera I've owned that would allow me to so easily work around design issues.
