Hey, going to Moscow, Italy and probably Monaco /Zurich next week.

I used to have a 6D and now I got a 80D with the 18 135 usm. The combo seems to have a good quality overall and I have the following lenses :
  • 100 2.8 L
  • 70 300 L
  • 16 35 f4 L
  • 50 1.8 stm
  • 40 2.8
  • 85 1.8
As I used them with the 6D and I don't have much experience with the aps c sensor, I was wondering which lenses you would bring to the trip. It will be hot and I'm tempted to only bring the kit lens. I also have a Fuji 100s as a back up camera.
  1. Most of the focal length is covered by the kit lens. Maybe you guys have experience with these lenses and body and can help me out.

I would take the kit lens and either the 40 or 50.

I usually take the 6D with a 16-35 F4, and either the 24-105 or 70-300L, as well as the 40 or 50.

Just curious, why did you get rid of the 6D when you have such a nice selection of FF glass?

I had the same question a few years back.. I had my 60d the past 5x in as many years that we took long cruises (42-50days) to Europe.. mainly Italy..Spain.. Portugal..Greece..Malta ... I've taken my 15-85 the first 2x then got the 17-55 2.8 for low light for doing Museums/Cathedrals .. I also carry a 70-300L but don't use it too much and it usually stays on the ship when touring for the day ..I carry along a lightweight backup SX50 for any long zooms but it's not for everyone..I value the wide angle more than the zoom over there.. I also have a 10-18 that I carry

I just got an 80d and will carry the 17-55 this time as my main walk-around in late October doing that same cruise

my Canon 60d sure beats using that ol' Petri 7s

Why get rid of the 6D? The only reason I would get the 80D over the 6D is for Wildlife.

I'd bring the 16-35mm, and 70-300mm, maybe a prime.

Brought my Rebel XSi, 18-55mm, and 55-250mm along when I visited Europe in 2013. Although I used the telephoto somewhat, a lot of the time I wished that I could step back and capture more of the scene. So, I'd suggest bringing something wider than 18mm. My 10-18mm would likely see a lot of use if I were visit Europe again in the near future.

I would snag a 10-18 stm quick! That and the kit lens plus one prime should do the trick. Maybe the 85mm because I like it better than the 40 or 50.

Damian, I will suggest you just need the 18-135mm together with one of the small primes for better low light performance when you need it.

The 18-135mm is a fairly huge zoom range which when used with a 24mp sensor, gives you even more mileage.

I brought my 35mm f2 IS prime to China last weekend but didnt use it much at all. In fact I mounted this lens just so I wont feel I have brought it for nothing.. Lol

Thanks,

Sold it at a very good price back in my country.. I'll sell this one too around December I guess. Maybe a 6D replacement will be announced by then.

Out of the list, I would take the 16-35, 50 STM and 70-300L. This is heavy enough and covers 99% of situations.

Was on a recent Japan trip with 16-35, 50STM and 70-200/2.8 and didn't really miss another lens (whilst I left my 35/1.4 and 85/1.4 at home).

Still very confusing that you sold your 6D for a crop cam when you have all this fantastic full frame glass.

I have been to Moscow several times. I always take an 18-135 stm, 10-18stm and a 35mm f2. Most things in Moscow are very big, buildings, churches, squares, parks etc both inside and out. You dont need a lot of zoom there and I found I rarely used the full zoom potential of the 18-135. No need to carry a 70-300 in my opinion, but a 10-18 is a good suggestion. I've always thought an 18-35 would be an ideal Europe travel lens...albeit a bit heavy.

Have a good trip!

If you are only walking the towns in Europe then the 18-135 is long enough and the 10-18 is good for indoors.

We just spent 2 weeks through Scandinavia and Russia, and the churches etc are seriously big. I used my 10-18 probably 10% of the time and only inside.

I didn't really need the longer lenses until we were out of the city and had some space.

The 24mm STM. It's the APS-C twin of the 40mm you already have, and is every bit as good. It's a wonderful inconspicuous walk-around lens for an APS-C camera. Not having to think about zooming means that you can take a shot very quickly indeed. It's also very light, of course so it's very easy to slip into your luggage.

I didn't read the other replies but I would take the 6D + 16-35 but since you don't have 24-105, I'd use the 80-D with 18-135. I would also rent or buy a 10-22 for APS sensor. You'll need it for the cities.

who are you travelling? what are your photography goals? are you taking a tripod?

You will be perfectly fine with the 18=135. If you were to take a second lens I would take the 50 if you are traveling with friend/family for indoor shots. My third lens would be the canon 10-18. 135 on crop is 200mm equiv. and I find that I almost never need more reach when travelling.

however, dont be affraid to just take your 18-135. as far as superzooms go its a very good one, and a trip is the perfect tiem to use a super zoom.

a gorrilapod can be very useful and hardly takes any space. as my second lens I would recommend an ultraside, 10-18, but that has to do with my style of shooting. for landsccape and architecture I would think it would come in handy.

Thank you all guys,

I got my 10 18 now. So i think trip will be 10 18, 18 135 and 50 1.8. 70 300 seems to heavy to carry it around.
