I only have one question. Why would anyone spend $400 to be able to use old lenses (not designed for the camera) on any camera. It just does not make sense to me at all. Want to use Nikon lenses, buy a Nikon body, you can get a bottom of the line one (3200 or the like) for less than the adapter, and have full functionality. This practice of adapting lenses never made any sense to me, and especially not at $400 while not getting complete use of the available functions you get when you use lenses and cameras designed to work together. Can anyone explain........

The purpose of the expensive adapters is to allow you to use recent or new lenses, not old ones. For old lenses, you can buy a cheap adapter with no electronics.

Both Nikon and Canon offer lenses that are not available in native E mount. And there are people who have Nikon or Canon kit and want to use a Sony camera too, but not to buy several expensive Sony or Zeiss lenses. An expensive adapter can be worth while if it can be used with several lenses.

some people have collections of old lenses and would like to use them instead of having to replace them - also there are lenses available from Nikon & Canon at focal lengths not made in E-mount

See Brian's Smith's post: http://briansmith.com/vello-nikon-f-sony-e-mount-af-lens-adapter/

This adapter allows Nikon lenses to be used on the full frame E-mount (FE) with full support for EXIF, IBIS, and PDAF, using the Sony A7xII sensor.

Anyone who has a compliment of full-frame Nikon lenses may be very interested in this adapter - we have seen the same with owners of a compliment of full-frame Canon lenses.

For the price, it is a 'cheap' solution, consider purchasing all new lenses.

As to this thread showing up under APS-C, this is confusing. This adapter works on the A6300 also, but you would not get IBIS, FF, and the cost would be excessive for using it on APS-C.

What makes you think that Canon and Nikon lenses cannot be used on Sony (F)E-mount?

These adapters couple modern electronics (lenses) to the non-native (A7xII) cameras, which is an amazing thing - think about it!

My camera store keeps a table fully stocked with old and used lenses - all $20. I'm one who would use an adapter to play with some of those - pled the Canon glass I already have.

as usual sarcasm will suffice when you don't actually see the point.

what I am saying is simple- use lenses designed for you camera and get all functionality without the need for compromise to use some old piece of junk you have laying around

'Nonsense ' written in BOLD

by a senior contributor here, well, well. I hope all goes better with you and for you soon.

Why do you call lenses 'old junk'? They may be old but are generally quite usable on E-mount. That is why people switch to Sony E; then only the 'old' camera is gone, but not any lenses.

And please do enjoy your 'new' everything. With a bit of tolerance and understanding things will improve for all, including you and me.

Mike

Can you give me about 20,000 dollars in US funds so that I can go out and buy all the lenses that I already have so that I can use them with my Sony Camera?

Currently I am using the Vello adapter to use my Nikon lenses on my Sony, but I would much rather rebuy all the Sony lenses and use them instead

I can get you my bank account number to make a BIG deposit when you are ready

Thank You

now I know the answer, I understand it, but I totally do not agree with the idea of using other manufacturers lenses at all

...maybe you already own lenses?

my 24-70 is 1800$

my 70-200 1900$

my 24-120 1100$

.... and the primes are in the same zip code price.

If the adapter worked on an A6000 then I would think about it. The A7r2 is not really something I am ready for at this point. I may be ready to make the jump to an A7iii. I tried the sigma MC-11. AF with the 18-35 was great on the A6000 but poor on the A7ii.

Doesnt that become YOUR problem?

BTW, let me know where to get a sony native tilt-shift lens.
Nevermind lenses that Sony hasn't even announced, someone let me know when Sony finally releases or announces the official retail price of the 70-200 GM...
