Hi everyone,
After selling all my Canon eqp. i moved to the A7R + 35 + 55. i dont know why but i couldnt really get used to it and lost my love in taking photos.

Today i got the chance to switch to an X-T1 set with 23mm + 56mm. Its a world of a difference. Today i took more photos than the past weeks with my A7R.

The lenses are superb (sony were perfect too) the body feels amazing and shooting is really fun.

Only thing i miss is maybee the 36mp of the sony. I dont really need that much but it was good to have and to crop the way i like.

I dont really know why i wrote all this but just wanted to share my feelings.

Does anyone of you have good tips for a first time Fuji esp. X-T1 user.

Maybe some important settings
Some DO and DONTs

Do get one or two more batteries, and a grip will also improve the ergonomics.

Have you turnes on the high performance mode?

Also if you shoot raw, try the Iridient Developer for converting the raw files.

Welcome. I have a different camera history but the same thing happened when I got an XE-1 - rate of photos and good photos went up.

By now most questions about the XT-1 and its use have been discussed. Just search when an issue comes up.

You apparently like prime lenses, so take the next step: get a legacy Zeiss lens, perhaps Contax mount, and a cheap adapter to the Fuji X-mount.

Got 2 more batteries and a half case.

I really enjoy that X-T1 :) feels good after the A7R. I dont know yet why.

High performans mode is ON :)
dont know what it is but it sounds good :)

I dont really feel like i would need a Zeiss. Maybe i will get an 18-55 or 55-200 or what that zoom was.

I currently have the A7R, X-T1 and still have my Canon gear.

Right now I consider the A7R, with Metabones adapter my D800 equivalent. Do have the FE 55 and 35 for native use but for UWA I use my Zeiss ZE 21 and Canon TS-E 24L II. So I'm using it for Landscape and architecture.

The Fuji is my walk around casual setup since I really don't feel comfortable using it for sports or for events where flash is really needed. Canon owns this space for me still. Really like the Fuji lens lineup though.

As far as grips go the Sony's is great to me because both batteries are in the grip but the Fuji has a lower profile and RRS has an L-bracket for it. They only have a plate for the Sony grip.

Interesting you moved from the Sony A7R to smaller sensor XT-1.

So are you using the XT-1 kit for paid professional assignments?

And, , care to share some of your superb photos here from your XT-1 new kit?

unlike the Sony the XT1 is weatherproof. You may want to hold off on purchasing a zoom till the WR versions are released, I think one is being announced Monday.

why are you offended by what the O.P wrote? He certainly didn't say the Sony was bad or the Fuji is better; he said that he couldn't get used to the Sony. Is that a crime?

If you want to see 'superb photos from an XT1', how about do a little internet search yourself? There is plenty out there.

Maybe you should wave your Sony giant foam hands in the Sony area.. Just a thought.

Owning D4 and D800E myself I can only tell you that 36MP is not sacred.
A camera is NOT about the megapixels, but all about how it handles in your hands.

36MP has its advantages for cropping, but it doesn't really add anything else unless you need to print extremely large.

He said smaller sensor..... full frame to APS-C.

I have both A7r and Xt1. I love them both. Yes the Sony Zeiss 24-70 was disappointing as I really wanted that as my main zoom lens but not good enough to buy at that price.

Fuji has super jegs, great ergonmics, fast AF and tracking AF and a terrific range of superb lenses.

I would get the 18-55 F2.8 as a walkaround all purpose lens for your XT1.

I would not bother with legacy lenses particularly as they always seem to be a step down from the Fuji equivalent and of course you lose AF.

I use Photo Ninja to convert my Fuji RAWs and it does a great job. Irident is a Mac software so unless you use Macs its of no use.

Greg.

WTF are you talking about? Can't you read? Where in my post did I say I was offended at his switch from the A7r to XT-1? What's up with that?

I simply asked why the OP went from compact mirrorless Sony FF to Fuji APS-C. Simple question. And I asked if he was a professional photog, and to see if he had pics comparing differences /trade off in IQ of his pics, if any. Or maybe why don't you share a few of your own FujI XT-1 pics here.

BTW: I myself am seriously considering a Fuji X cameras: X100s, XE2, or XT-1 for its vivid OOC Jpegs, and IQ to add as street/travel kit.

I have no interest in any of the Sony A7/A7/r cameras, for my own personal reasons, but as a disclaimer, I do own a RX100 as a pocket camera. I could care less about camera brands as long as the camera meets my need.

Maybe you should reread my post to the OP. Sounds like you are a Fuji fanboi. Just a thought.

Fanboi ? Can't seem to find that word in my dictionary, I've no idea what you mean.

Its a shame you didn't let the O.P know of your 'genuine' request for these comparisons before this post, or indeed give an idea of your own reasons for wanting a comparison Or your situation (which you have half clarified in your last post). Maybe try being not so blunt and give a little more information in future? Just a thought

Hi everyone...

First of all thank you for all the replies...
No need to get angry...

I switched from Mark 3 and 4 good glasses to the A7R...WHY?

I dont do paid jobs anymore because o time...
Since i dont earn money with it i didnt see the need for a big DSLR Set...

The A7R was my first choise since
FF - Small - Light Weight - Zeiss Glass (35 + 55 in my case) - 36MP - no AA Filter - etc...

It was a bad choise for me because of:
Shutter Shock - Tooo loud for shooting my 50 days young son - accesories too expensive - etc...

i cant complain about the good shoots... i have a lot of keepers but still for my need it is not good or not what i like about photos...

The X-T1 colors are amazing - the body feels perfect in hand - the lenses are perfect (couldnt copare a lot but they are maybe even better than the FE Mount Zeiss 35 + 55) - even the fact that a flash comes in package and it is small and doesnt need batteries is a PRO for me...

Maybee the small things make me happier by now...

About sharing some photos... Sorry but i just took a few out of the window etc...
I couldnt even get used to the RAW editing since i have it for less than 24 hours...
I am experimenting ATM and searching for the right settings for my needs...

I hope some others that are looking for the things like i do will get an idea in this topic...

I am not a long time member of DPReview but i like the helpful people and the knowledge of alot of you... Here are a lot of amateurs that know 100 times more that Prof. Photogs that i know in private :)

Hey don't forget the A7s it's totally silent and awesome high iso performance. You can use small f4 lenses it won't matter as much.

Appreciate your follow up. Your initial observations are vey helpful for me.

It will help me make an informed decision on the X series of cameras. Right now I'm leaning toward either Fuji XT-1, XE-2, or XE-1 for a street/vacation camera because of 18-55 basic zoom is all I want and need.

So, hope you will do a follow up post on how you are liking your XT-1 once you get more milage with your cam.

Regards and thanks again.

your welcome..

Sorry for my bad english... i am from Germany...

I cant tell you one thing for shure... if you dont need the 36MP of the sony
FOR ME the Sony has no advantage...
I dont like the adapters for Sony... They are too big... I have a M42 adapter and a Helios 44m6 and the adapter is as big as the Lens :)

I dont like to spend a lot of money for my hobby usage on Leicas or Voigtlanders to be true...
I like to use the lenses that are designed for my camera...

The 23 and the 56 e.g. are just AMAZING... I love AF and use it a lot... Build quality is perfect...
IQ is TOP etc...

I am sure i will write a lot here but for now i dont know where to start :)

The bulk of my paid shooting is now with Fuji equipment. When I am doing large b&w landscape, I still like to use 4x5. the Fuji is simply awesome for portraiture and engagement sessions I do. I use raw+jpg and rarely....and I mean rarely ever need the raw file. The color and detail from the jpg engine is better than anything from Canon or Nikon.
