Tombstone Forum

Abusive posts only last until I see them. Same with personal attacks.
We will have to agree to disagree on that. You might not be able to see it, because you happen to agree with this group of people, but there is ONE allowed mindset on this forum. Post anything contrary to it and you will get mass attacked by this small but vocal group. Anyone who responds in kind to them will get reprimanded. People leave and/or are afraid to post anything because of this. Sad that a handful of discontented people can ruin what could be a useful space.

I have no doubt this post will get removed (or the thread locked) and I expect to receive a ban threat for posting my opposing opinion on this. :P
I agree there are some very 'strong' personalities on here and to suggest something contrary to their thought is a recipe to get piled on.

And sometimes it does get personal but I think Kerry has done a good job of deleting and not deleting posts.

However, I think he could do a better job of being neutral in discussions.

And in the end, the problem with traffic is no new pro DX cameras. I think it would be better to redefine the group or include it with the DX forum to keep it more timely and diverse.

Even the release of the D400 would only be a short term solution.

I think there should be Nikon DX and Nikon FX forums and ditch the pro DX.

Interesting proposition, but what would be different? How would the discussions be different? I mean, why would people interested in pro-DX would be more talkative if they are included in an all-inclusive forum? Or maybe they would see that the D7100 is not so bad after all? Well, there is already a forum where they can see that, yet they still keep coming here.

In other words, if you go to the list of posts for each forums, currently on page 1 of the pro-DX forum there is one week worth of discussions, while on the plain DX forum there are 3 days worth. What would make the pro-DX forum followers contribute more than they are now? All that would happen is that the few pro-DX entries will be lost in the plain-DX entries. Well maybe not: there would be quite a few more entries asking pro-DX owners why they put up with such antiquities, and why do you think fps are important, or why do you want f/2.8 glass, or why do you want those heavy cameras, or "I can do nice pictures of my house with a D3300, why do you want to use a TS lens?" :-)

Some cameras, some lenses, some computers

The answer that is.

The cameras were and still are just brilliant no one has much to moan about them and the owners are out shooting. Lots of traffic in the FF Nikon forum possibly due to the issues with D600 and some owners struggling with the might of the D800. Just my opinion but the build quality of the old Pro DX line was so much better than current line up. Quieter here because we know what lenses we need to take with us on holiday.

I went out on the weekend with my trusty D300s shot some sport what more is there to say? Better lowlight capabilities would be nice but I can live with it.

Tombstone forum? Will be Blazing Saddles if Nikon ever pull their finger out and releases that D400

The Olympus SLR forum is similar.
I think what causes this is when 2-3 VERY hostile posters are -allowed- to blast anyone who doesn't agree with their narrow minded viewpoint. People get tired of being verbally abused and leave. That is exactly what happened on the Olympus forum and this one as well.

I'll be glad when these few posters move onto a D7100, Pentax or FF etc. so the people who -enjoy- using these older bodies can chat here without being personally attacked.

Stacey, who goes back into lurk mode...
So true. And it's not hard for anyone to guess who the 2-3 abusive, hostile, narrow-minded posters you have in mind are.

The moderator's biggest mistake on this forum when these individuals show up, frankly, has been to lock up the whole thread instead of banning only the offender or deleting their posts. AS a consequence the abusers have learned that it is easy to shut down any opposing viewpoints to theirs simply by posting a string of inflammatory comments. The moderators then blindly play into the abuser's agenda by locking the thread for both the good guys and the bad.

In the end the forum withers because the people who post interesting, if controversial, threads give up on the moderation. What's left is the repeating "Where's the D400" posts which leads to a further decline of interest by others (even the abusers) in the forum.

But, that is not what is topical to this forum. I've given you guys extra leeway here, instead of deleting the posts as the rules call for. I'm bad for doing that too, but I'll deal with it.

Now, it is time to go back to normal, ie talking about cameras/gear, instead of me. If you want to talk about me, find an appropriate place to continue that discussion or you can send me a PM. Either way, this sub-discussion is now over.

thanks

Kerry

Exactly
What would make the pro-DX forum followers contribute more than they are now?
Having something to post about instead of where is the d400 or why this is tombstone foruM

So you think that by merging the forums, we woud have less questions like the one in this thread:
