Hi All

D700 was a great camera when introduced and still is today.

Remember when D800 came out lots of people saying we need D700 with D4 sensor not D800 sensor.

What If Nikon fitted the new Sony A7s Sensor In a Nikon Body would that answer the low light prays?

Just thinking aloud.

Dug out a couple of old D700 shots at the link below.

Cheers

I am also a big fan of the D700. Best all-round camera I have ever owned. Even after four years, I'm not in a big hurry to upgrade.

Probably your thread hasn't received much attention because the topic of a D700 successor has been debated pretty heavily, and people are burned out. :-)

Personally, I would need 36MP or more to motivate me to replace my D700. I'd like to be able to do in-camera crops from 1.2x-1.5x and still have at least 16MP left over. The D800 doesn't quite fit the bill for me, because I do a lot of action shooting and am hoping for at least 7 or 8 fps in FX mode, or even in 1.2x crop mode. Maybe the D900 will do that. I'm willing to skip a generation or two, until it happens.

I had a look at your gallery. The pp on many of them is a little too over the top for my taste, but then I tend to process too conservatively and boringly. Having said that, a lot of your images are very creative and interesting. And even the pp is just right (for me). :-) Thanks for sharing.

Not going to happen. Nikon has move to higher res with FX and many of the D700 nostalgia gang are talking 24 MP.

+1

None of the current FX bodies are interesting to a D700 owner.

At this point it wouldnt make any sense since their FX line is pretty full. And the 16mp i think is a more practical balance of resolution and sensor performance... the 12mp of the A7s seems to be intended mostly for the video market.

Hi Julie

Thanks for taking the time to look at my flickr page.

Some of the images are slightly over processed (LOL) I know but that's only on flickr.

Any work I do for family and friends I hold back a little bit .

Also looking forward to D900.

Cheers

I have a d700 that I still use a lot. I also have a Sony NEX-7 and a Sigma DP2M that I use to scratch my high-res itch.

I would like to see a 24 mp camera with d4 sensor characteristics in a d700 shell selling somewhere south of $2,000.

But I'm in no rush. I'm still waiting for my skill to catch up with my present hardware.

For D700 owners to upgrate to another 12MP camera would require something very significant. I guess a huge upgrade in DR and especially ISO, maybe two stops. Even then it's probably not enough to attract most buyers, though I'm just guessing.
