If you have a 10D or D60 or D30 why did you get it? And are you happy?

I got my D30 because I wanted a digital camera that performed like an Film SLR!!! The main reason was shutter response. i hate unresponsive gear.

YES IM HAPPY! =)

D30.

Why:
  • I wanted to go digital
  • I already had an SLR and wanted control and quality
  • I could not afford a D1x or a 1D at the time. D100 and D60 were not available.
Yes I'm happy. The D60 was not enough of an upgrade to bother. Mulling still about the "next step".

Cheers

I don't have any of the above.

I just thought it was interesting that the D10's giving you focus problems, when all the reviews I've read seem to prefer the D10's autofocus system over that of the D30 and D60.

What kind of problems is it giving you?

Oh, and is your card a SanDisk? Some of the forum postings have mentioned SanDisk card problems.

I got the D60 to go digital from my EOS5 (A2) as I loved the sample images and the manual I downloaded from Canon before I bought it. I had it 3 months when it was replaced by the 10D so was a bit miffed (upset) that it was discontinued so soon. Having read the 10D threads I see that as with any new piece of equipment there are always going to be issues so I did not rush out to get one. I will use my D60 as I like it loads and of course the only issue is focus in low light but since the 550EX is mounted almost all the time in low light, the focus assist does the trick. Just one point though, the 5 was a brill camera so why didn't they just transfer the focussing system to the digital cameras, especially the red focus assist light, it produced the same pattern as the 550EX does , a series of parallel lines for the camera to focus on, that would have solved everyones problems I am sure.

That covers all three ... and they take the EOS lens system which is a better reason than most for getting a canon of some description be it a cheap used D30, a used D60 or a high-flying ultimate 1DS

None of them are perfect but that's life ..

I agree with several others here. I went with the D30 to go digital with my existing EOS lenses and also to get away from shutter lag in the consumer point and shoots.

I was very happy with the D30 for 2 years (D60 was not enough of an improvement to justify an upgrade for me). I recently sold my D30 and upgraded to the 10D and I am very happy with it.

When I got my D30, it replaced an EOS-3. I sold the EOS-3 about a month later.

Not because the D30 was a better camera (it's clearly not). But because I was sick and tired of scanning negatives.

I will also have to say that the D30's poor AF performance gave me a lot more opportunity to work with manual focus, and taught me how to look for ways to "trick" the AF into giving me what I wanted. Those "tricks" still come in useful today, just not quite as often with the 1D.

Also, the instantaneous feedback of digital VASTLY improved my ability to get proper exposure.

Let's see... over £4000 invested in canon EF system... And D30s available for not a lot of money. £550 to be exact!

Couldn't have done that with Nikon. Or Fuji. Or Kodak. Or Sigma.

I got a D30 because I wanted faster lenses and more control over depth of field than offered by my S30. With 28mm f/1.8, 50mm f/1.4 and 135mm f/2 lenses in my stable now, I have achieved my goals (and still have the S30 for when I want portability, infinite depth of field, reliable flash exposure ;-), and the semblance of wide angle.

Still have the D30, just as a backup for the 1D, I was happy with it till the 1D came along. I also have an EOS3 that I seldom use, but both are great tools, and are worth more to keep than sell at a loss.

Pictures can't do the real thing justice, but you gotta' try.

I got the D30 because I wanted more control over my images, and frankly, because I was spending a lot of money for processing when I really didn't need or want all 36 exposures printed. I did slides too, but I was doing the mailers instead of local processing - I couldn't ignore the price difference, but didn't like to wait a week or more for the results.

The 10D is tempting, but I would really like a higher frame rate - at least 4 fps - and a larger buffer, not to mention larger imager - something in the neighborhood of 1.3x crop.

I'd sell the D30 and EOS-3 and get another 1D (with some extra cash required). Or sell them both and get a 10D (shouldn't require extra cash).

Unless you really want the wide-angle that the EOS-3 affords you.

I sold my EOS-3 within a few months of getting the D30, and sold the D30 within a few months of getting the 1d.

I also got tired of scanning. Even though the 10D quality is not in the same league as a good film scan, it does have its own advantages.

No I am hoping to scan a lot less. At least the models can get an immediate response, even if i do not scan for a while.

I still plan on continuing to shoot film. Nothing beats a properly exposed slide. Also, it is cheaper than converting a digital image to a slide. Lastly, I have yet to see a digicam I can afford that can give me a 40MPx3 (foveon quality) image. Slide film can.

So do I like the 10D? Yes! it save a lot of time and allows me to get rid of the polaroid camera -- and saves a lot on polaroid film cost. But film is still fun to use.

and Sell the lot including the 1D and get a 1DS

LOL ;-) ....

Sorry David Had to say that - Seriously, I'd look into the 1d again and even into importing a 1D from the states myself (they're $5280 USD in the UK) if the 3D wasn't just around the corner ...
