Thanks a lot to Wilba for running another great challenge.

Show a creative Shadows image and / or Light image

Post just one of your photos in each reply (this overrules the posting guideline to put all your images in a single post).

Please include the photo you are replying to above your own, so that we can see them together at the same time in the one message (this overrules the posting guideline about not bringing back any previous photos).

If you want you can explain the connection, or we can have fun guessing what it might be.

I hope we can keep this challenge going through the week, so you could spread your submissions a day or two apart rather than posting all three at once.

I will judge not only on the appeal of the photos, but also on the buzz I get from the connections between them.

This challenge will close at 5:00pm on Friday the 13th of April, New York time. (Hope its not bad luck then to end it then. ;) )

Have fun!

Standard Rules

The host gives you a topic of interest. You post a maximum of three images. Any picture you've taken is eligible regardless of time taken and camera.

You can do all the post processing you want. However, it is most helpful if you list your camera and lens along with your photo (because we like to know).

Feel free to comment on other contestant’s images. If you want people to give you constructive criticism, ask for C&C.

The host chooses the winner. The host's decision is final. The host is not eligible.

The winner then hosts the next challenge, judges the winner, and passes on the baton to that person. The winner has 48 hours to post the new challenge. If that doesn't happen 2nd place has 24 hours to do so, and if that doesn't happen it's up to the 3rd place winner.

Posting Guidelines

When posting your picture, change the Subject of your post to display your picture titles and/or your name. This way, when someone comments (i.e. replies), it will refer specifically to you. If all entries read "Re: * Mini-Challenge xxx * …" it would be very boring to scan the list.

Either embed your image in the thread or, if you must, supply a link to it. Keep in mind, however, most people don't want to click to open photos hosted elsewhere (i.e. on your website).

You may enter up to 3 pictures, but try to put them within a single post. Please give a title to each photo, this makes it easier to differentiate when giving comments.

Please size your photo no bigger than around 1200 pixels on the longest dimension. This is to let those with smaller monitors to see your image at full resolution. Please limit the file size of your entries to conserve bandwidth.

As a show of courtesy, and to save bandwidth, please remove the original post when replying, so you don't bring back any previous photos.

I suspect you left part of the text from last challenge in the description, and that it does not apply anymore? (I am referring to how we should reply to photos and keep that photo in our post and so on)....

Thank you brightcolours for pointing in my error of the challenge...

That is what happens when I don't get enough sleep and I am copy and paste from a previous mini.

Were you able to click on the -show signature-
That is where I rewrote what is expected for the mini.

(if you don't click on that, it is all hidden. Argh for dpreview's editing system!)

If you still don't understand, then it is my English ...

Thanks Janne for taking over the challenge. I'm sorry I didn't realize you were in second place, so this may be a good time to congratulate you on that.

I was playing with light today, thinking about your challenge. Not so much shadow in the harsh sun of the early afternoon, although I did try to get some, or rather, my model was.

This is intentionally overexposed, no PP except for some cropping, as I'm on the road.

Canon Rebel T3i, 18-55 IS II @55mm, F number=7.1, 1/640, exp comp +2/3

I read the instructions and thought that sueanne wanted something similar to the last week's competition (which I could not attend). Please ignore my entry above.

This is a good topic for a mini-challenge. I should think more about shadows and light when I'm shooting. I didn't find many in my collection that fit, but here are three that may work.

1. A frigid winter sunrise in Kiev, Ukraine
XSi, EF-S 15-85mm IS

2. Sunset at the Grand Canyon, Arizona
XSI, EF 50mm f/1.8 (nifty fifty)

3. Late afternoon shadows - Vydubetsky Monastery, Kiev, Ukraine
XSi, EF-S 15-85mm IS

Thanks for looking!
