Got my white G3 kit today fom Panasonic direct!

What was the included software?

Another version of Silkypix SE? If so, what is the version number?

Thanks
I took a couple of quick photos in RAW and Lightroom 3 (up to date) would not import them. It says this camera was not supported. I hadn't expected that, as I imagined it would be supported along with my other Panasonic cameras. But with a new sensor, I guess I'll have to wait for an update from Adobe to shoot in RAW. I have desire to install the included software, as I use Lightroom exclusively for my workflow.

Does that DNG conversion actually work for anyone?

I tried it with several RAW formats over the past year or three. Didn't work in Aperture. Didn't work in LR (unrecognized format). For each attempt I checked that I had the latest DNG converter. The only way I got an unsupported RAW to be recognized was to change the camera model in EXIF before import.

With all the other Gs (except G1 which takes a two button push) and GFs AFIK you simply press the back dial in and you get magnified view with MF lenses. I wouldn't have thought they would change this. Very quick and easy. To increase magnification you turn the dial once.

Since you you are so lucky to them both!

And if you wouldn't mind, please let us see them both ways, ooc and processed from RAW files (preferably by Sikypix).

It will help me greatly to decides which of these great cameras would be better for me. From what I have seen they have different color rendition.

Thank you in advance.

Hate to burst your bubble, but the "L" logo is on the G3 as well...
As you can see, I haven't even attached the lens yet, ...
Why that's damn purdy!

I like that they put all the HD video advertising BS on the back AND got rid of the hideously ugly/idiotic golden "L" logo that pollutes the front of GH2!

Nice!

So, what lenses are you putting on that puppy?

I wonder why the G2's resolution tests higher than with the G3. I was thinking of getting the G3 for just a little more resolution than my E-PL1. They use the same kit zoom (or similar zoom).
A simple explanation might be that it has more resolution at high ISO, but less at base ISO. More Mpx translate in more base noise, which has to be denoised to the expense of resolution.

That is why I tend to avoid the first iteration of a sensor. The PL1 instead was at the third or fourth, therefore better denoising weaker AA filter.

Perrhaps for the same reason the G3 has 10.3 DR which is about the same of the PL1: unimpressive.

An example of my brilliant powers of observation. :-)
It's less noticeable on a white body, but no less tacky.

Where is it made, just out of interest (the body) ?

I haven't installed the software, but according to the discs, it includes:
  • Silkypix Developer Studio 3.1 SE
  • PhotofunStudio 6.2 HD Edition
  • Super LoiLoScope (link to trial)

I would love to do the comparison for you, but I will be shooting in JPG until Adobe releases an update for Lightroom to process RAW files from the G3. I do not want to install additional software or modify my workflow, so I'll patiently wait for the update since I can continue to use RAW on my GH2 in the interim.

My apologies... I'm certain another G3 owner in the next few days would possibly be able to fulfill your request. :-)

Thank you Travis. That would be great.

In-camera jpegs compared will tell me a lot.

I'm about to order a G3 from Panasonic myself. Did battery, charger, cable to connect to pc come w/ your G3? I'm guessing the SD card will need to be purchased separately. Suggestions for neck strap, case, any other essentials to get started? Coming from DSLR world, G3 will be my carry everywhere camera. Too often I have photo op but nothing at hand other than cell phone which isn't the answer. (Neck injury makes DSLR impractical for every out and about.) I see G3 listed as "DMC-G3KW." Hopefully K stand for kit, the W must be for white? No delivery date specified, but since you have yours....
