Ok, so... don't take it badly, but what is the point to release a new camera if they cannot even distribute the GH2 ???

Are we seeing vaporware in the camera business now ? it is a first !

Note: I have had my GH2 on order at the panasonic website for 6 weeks.

Unless you are buying it at discount through EPP why not try another store since others are finding them with just a bit of work. I'm guessing that there are reasons we are unaware of that are hindering their delivery through the Panny US site. OTOH, it looks as though the G3s will be available quite soon. Think about it--the G2, GF2 and GF1 were readily available, still are. Even the GH1 is available discounted on the Panny site. That leads me to believe there's some particular issue related to the GH2.

BTW, not being an apologist for Panasonic. Their distribution and marketing in the US are pretty lame but I do think the GH2 is for some reason a special case beyond the usual nonsense. They should be more upfront about the reasons perhaps or at least give some REAL WORLD indication of when they might be available. They are not making any friends with this LOL.

Panasonic always stated that the GH2 was never meant to sell huge volumes, and thier production quantities reflect that. it seems that it's a very very popular product, which is why it sold out so fast.

The G series cameras (the G3 in this case) on the other hand is meant to sell in big volumes so will likely be much more readily available.

And yet you can get it a numerous sellers around the world and the US. I can't believe people expect Panasonic to sell an unlimited supply of this camera via their store taking away sales from all the retailers. That would kill their supply chain.

If you really wanted a GH2 you could get one in a couple days.

In the UK, trying to find a GF1 is about as hard as trying to find "Hens teeth" - there are quite a few websites advertising the GF1 but most of them have no stock.

The prices on the GF1 are going up as they become scarcer and there is a growing interest in these cameras from "working/pro photographers" who want a capable camera for their personal work instead of lugging their heavy/bulky DSLR's around - I can sympathise as for my commissioned work I use my full frame DSLR, but for my personal work I have been using my GF1 more and more.

just placing an order with Pany, waiting awhile, and then complaining about lack of delivery is a bit lazy, and reading their complaints is tiresome and irritating. As stated, people are finding the cameras; it takes a little work but can be done. It took me two hours, but I was successful and even saved some money. Others have reported similar experiences.

People post tips of where to get one on this site almost daily.

a hen's tooth in the UK, but I was there about six weeks ago and saw GF1s very often in shops, including the Panasonic stores, sitting next to GF2s. I also saw some GH2s, but didn't ask what amount of stock was available. I did ask about the GF1 at a couple of stores because I was thinking about getting a second one, and was told there were "several" or similar. I only saw the black models and was looking for another white one. Got a GH2 instead.

if so, it's sad.

Learn from Apple, it sells 100 million iPhones a year. Hire some more sweat shops in China or something. ^^

Just Shoot !

Its now more or less discontinued, isn't it, with the GF2. I guess I should have been more clear meaning when they were initially announced they were readily available and because they probably are no longer being manufactured and still in demand the prices have gone up. Its really a gen 1 like the G1. I did have my GF1 in very short order after it was announced. I don't think I would expect to find one easily now but rather the GF2.

If you want a GH2 dirt cheap, order from Panasonic, expect to wait... and wait, and wait.

If you REALLY want a GH2 and want to get one within some reasonable time frame...
expect to pay retail.

Once I set my sights on a GH2, it took a couple of weeks to get one in my hands. I'd suspect the wait time is a bit shorter now.

Not to be an apologist for Panasonic LOL but they sold probably all the G1s ordered, same with GF1s until the GF2 came out, lots of GH1s and gaboodles of Panny P & S. Their marketing in the US seems to be the limiting factor here. For some reason the GH2 seems to be a special case--likely as someone else said, it was initially seen as a low volume camera. The tsunami has to have affected production also. I have read that DSLRs in general will be difficult to find this summer.

The GH2 supply problem is only here in US. You can buy one anywhere in the world by just stepping into a store. If GH2 supply is a problem here, it doesn't mean Panasonic won't sell millions G3's around the world

The GH2 must be in low supply in the US. The demand is simply higher than the rest of the G series.

My bet is that the G3 will sell very well in the non-asian countries. It still has a bigger grip for the bigger hand, it is faster, better and cheaper than the older models.

I am using the old GF1, and waiting for the global shutter (without the shutter noise). I think I have to wait till as least next year with G4 or GF3....

They aren't having a problem with the G2 or the GF2. Maybe they're prioritising the G3 over ramping up production for the GH2.
