Finally looking at getting a 5DII, but will also need to get some new and larger CF cards, so I'm hoping someone can tell me how many images you can get per GB at different settings (jpeg, jpeg+raw, jpeg+sraw etc) and at various ISO settings.

i've just picked up the 5d2. i also bought an 8gb card. On RAW only settings it can hold approx 288 imgaes (according to the camera).

Have you checked out the canon product website? i remember seeing some info there when i was researching the 5D2 a couple of months back.

Its a (how long is a piece of string situation) the file size will alter depending on the content of the picture, the more dark parts to a picture the smaller the file. Just had a quick look at some of mine and they can be from 23mg to 30mg

RAW is 25Mb and its pretty much fixed.

What camera do I have? I rather you look at my photos http://www.flickr.com/photos/gavinz
The Canon 5DII captures about 35 megabytes of data - 20 million samples at 14 bits per sample.

This data is compressed using a lossless compression. If your images are easily compressible (not a lot of minute detail) you will get smaller raw files.

If your images contain lots of detail (or high ISO noise) then they will not compress well, and you will get larger raw files.

Doesn't the manual give a sampling of the number of images each size of quality will produce on a certain card? PAGE 55 I believe.

See the manual for Canon's average guesswork.

In real life you will be hard pressed to fill a 16 GB card during one day, unless you are continuous-shooting like crazy.

I filled a 16 gb card once (when shooting RAW only) since I got my camera almost a year ago.

With video you can of course run out much faster.

Also bought a 5dii along with a 16 gb card for a friend - never heard any complaints.

Manual or not real life the files will from experience will differ as mentioned above. This depends upon exposure detail and noise ect. A 22MB file is possible as is a 28MB.

My 8GB sanddisk shows up as a 7.62 MB when in camera and will fill 294 RAW.
Also remember you can use sRAW1 or 2 which will allow for more shots.
Hope this helps.
