I have a few older 4GB Class 6 SD/SDHC cards, but not Extreme III or IV. Most likely their speed is on lower end of Cl.6. In the same time there are some other brands cards somewhere in the middle (up to 20 MB/S). Is the S90 so fast for using Extremes or Class 10?

I don't think you would notice much difference other than a marginally faster download speed to your computer.

I asked Canon and they said no. However, one poster on this forum thought otherwise, so I'm still not sure. Another thing I've discovered is there MAY be a significantly higher failure rate of cheap cards vs Sandisk/Lexar.

Thank you. What about shooting RAW? Would Extreme III or IV be faster for file writing?

I am currently using a SanDisk Ultra II that says its Class 4 and 15MB/s.

I shoot RAW exclusively, but considering the maximum shooting speed is 0.9fps, if a RAW file is about 12MB, theoretically the card is fast enough to support the maximum sustained write.

I looked at the Extreme III rated at 30MB/s but it was twice the price of the Ultra II and really could not justify the advantage.

I would be willing to reconsider if someone had a difference experience.

My S90 only gets 11 RAW shots in 15 seconds with Sandisk Ultra 16 GB, 15 MB/s.

So I need a faster card to get 15 in 15 15 seconds?

Update: With my new 8 GB Sandisk Extreme Class 10:

13 shots in 15 seconds
