7dayshop generic D60 battery

It's really too bad that after buying your D60, you are so broke
and desperate that you need to buy generic accessories (lenses,
batts) for your new cam LCD.
And this, after you were on the Oly forum accusing people of being
too poverty-stricken to upgrade.
Rather pathetic, would'nt you say?
What a strange comment to make. If a third party product works as well as the 'official' part, and costs less, then what exactly is the reason not to buy it?

Do please explain, why is a Canon badged battery (1100mAh, £55) in any way better than a Uniross battery (1200mAh, £27)?

LCD and David M have been rowing on Oly-SLR for a long time and David just decieded to bring it over here..... There's no logic in the post, just mutual dislike for each other..

I personally get on with both of them, they just don't get along..

Hahnel do THIS, its superb and the charger works in USA/Euro/UK coming with ALL plug endings, takes 70 mins to charge BP511 and complete with a battery, all for under £60 !!!

http://www.jessops.com/search/viewproduct.cfm?PRODUCT=HAHDPBCBP511&BRAND=&CONTINUE=false&FEATS=&FIRSTPRICE=&KEYWORD=&LEVEL=&MODELNUMBER=&NEWQUERY=True&NODE=0&NODE_PATH=0&ORD=ASC&ORDERBY=&QUANTITY=10&REFINE=&SEARCH_FOR=bp511&SEARCHNODE=0&SEARCHURL=dointellisearch.cfm&SECONDPRICE=&SHOWCASEID=&STARTROW=1&SUBS=&WORD_SEARCH=Y&

I saw it some time back 'advertised' but its now becoming available FINALLY - JUST what I have been waiting for and PLUS - the charger (as you can see on Jessops site) is a quarter the size of the Canon one (ok only one battery but its GREAT for travellers within ANY of the regions I mentioned)

Super- got to love Hahnel :)

Cheerio - Tim

I don't know about the charger but their BP511s (1300MA) are SUPERB!, £39.90 at most places, I've used their AAs for ages and they're excellent too..

For the record...
MAHA Powerex (the AA battery kings) are doing BP511s now too :))

http://www.mahaenergy.co.uk/

for the UK stockists, similar price to the Hahnels

Just noticed in last weeks Amateur Photographer warehouseexpress.com are now selling a clone battery for the D60. The batteries are manufactured by Advan-tec and have a 3 year guarantee. The Canon BP-511 equivalent (Compatible with Canon G1, G2, PRO90IS, D30, D60) is £19.99 +P&P

I just placed an order at 7 day shop yesterday and they emailed me today saying that they were out of stock. I ordered one about 6 weeks ago and it arrived in about 4 weeks. The first one works fine and, like mentioned earlier in this thread, it is almost identical to the Canon model.

Whereas I ordered two from 7dayshop, against my better judgement, 8 weeks ago and only received them last week. Last time I deal with them - a couple of quid extra to actually receive items on time from Warehouse Express strikes me as money well spent.

They are all made (including Canons) by a company called Wansglory Co., Ltd., they are located in Taiwan. I am in talks with them to buy product. They have minimum ship of $2000 worth. The cost to me will be $9.95 per unit. I think it is 30 cents more per unit to have it silk screened with a brand name.

They are the only "manufacturer" of the BP-511 I have found. I have found lots of resellers but it always boils down to the same manufacturer to the best of my knowledge.

That doesn't surprise me too much, although I'm sure that there must be several manufacturers. My Uniross batteries are clearly different in detail from the Canon parts - the shape of the contacts and the fact that they're gold plated, minor details of the moulding and so on. Some 3rd party batteries are a tight fit in the D60 body and others aren't. The Canon batteries are rated at 1100mAh while others are commonly 1200mAh.

The price doesn't surprise me at all - Canon are merely cashing in on the fact that people aren't prepared to risk a £2000 camera for the sake of a £50 battery, even though evidence shows that the risk is practically zero in practise. (Hands up who actually uses Canon CF cards!)

Hi Dave

Thanks for the info. Canon's mark up is huge. In the UK they cost £55, say $80. I wonder what the mark up is on the D60. No! I don't want to know that!! ;-(

Andrew, the company I mentioned actually make the Canon batteries. They are rated at 1200mAh. I have been in direct communication with them. Infact there web site... http://www.asia.globalsources.com/gsol/GeneralManager?&design=clean&language=en&action=GetSupplier&page=supplier/ProductDetail&supplier_id=6008801436919&product_id=8821921551&action=GetProduct&action=GetPoint&point_id=3000000149681&catalog_id=2000000003844 ...actually uses a Canon battery image... From my discussions with certain people, all of these batteries are actually manufactured in one place. I find it hard to believe but that is what they tell me.

Just an FYI

The Batteries are probably 7 bucks a piece at most (with their volume buying power), probably less, yet they charge how much for a battery? I think it is ugly. And you are right. You probably don't want to know how much the manufacture margin is on a D-60!!! Of course the argument is "dont forget the R&D". Gag....

Maybe true - it just seems unlikely to me, given that there are detail differences between brands. Maybe the same factory has different production lines for each brand?

It could be the case, for example, that Canon owns the design rights to the 'real' BP-511, so the factory isn't allowed to sell EXACTLY the same part to other companies. Other companies could, however, produce their own BP-511-based design, and have it manufactured independently by the same subcontractor, possibly even on the same production line.

This doesn't, then, give any guarantee of compatibility, because the production line is actually manufacturing according to different designs. It does, however, mean that OEM costs should be similar if the quantities are similar.
