What about other Flash ads? Many of the other Flash ads are also very CPU intensive - using 20-30% CPU activity. The Blockbuster ad was just the worst offender, using up to 100-120% (on a Dual CPU machine), but it wasn't the only problem.Blockbuster ad is now gone.
Don't even go there. Ever heard of Nikonians.com?I think I'd rather pay money than have the site messed up as it has been, recently. Indeed, I did once make a donation when I realised I had been hanging around here quite a bit.
Admittedly, that one £10 payment across 6 years is not exactly "generous" by anyone's standards....
.... but it happens to be £10 more than I've spent with ANY of the advertisers, and that's a fact!

--It is a recent phenonemon, and others report it also. I haven't noticed it on any other websites.

I respectfully disagree, Phil. Please visit the Nikonians website and you won't see any white flashes at all. They too use a black BG. For me, it's only in DPReview and it started not too long ago.

These suggestions have been make time and again long ago, but people are still having troubles.I see the Blockbuster ad in Firefox but it doesn't appear to slow anything down.
I have the doubleclick and google thingy blocked and my IE8 is screaming fast now ...
I thought you said the Blockbuster ad was gone? It's still here and still freezing IE on my PC even though I've taken action to restrict the sites. I would suggest fixing this or a lot of people will spend a lot less time on DPR.
