How many 5D owners upgrading to 50D?

I upgraded(for many a downgrade) from the 5D to the 30D over a year ago and returned the 24-70mm lens to my local photo store. Nothing really wrong with the 5D, it was just to heavy for me to get sharp handheld shots with the huge 24-70mm lens lens on the front. For hand held shots, I did better with the smaller camera.

There is no doubt that the combination could take very detailed and beautiful photos, but about 80% of mine were blurred from motion unless I kept the shutter speed up at 1/500 and higher. Even so, my wrists hurt after just a few minutes.

So, one person's downgrade is anothers upgrade.

I did try a 24-70 on my 40D with the same results. With the 70-200 F2.8 non IS, I get great shots, its just something about the balance of that short but heavy lens that causes me a problem. Now, I have pretty much all IS lenses and they work well for my weak wrists.

The term xD covers a big range. I would have agreed with you if 5D has a pro body. On the other hand a 30D body to a 50D body is a very significant upgrade imo. I'm not even sure how much advantage, if any, 5D sensor has over the new 15MP crop sensor. We definitely will find out soon.
since when xd to xxd is an upgrade???

Not to the degree of landing on the moon but I think you better believe it this time. Too much info to say it's a hoax.

I do agree with you even a 3yr old ff sensor may not be able to hold its supremacy for long.
It depends. First of all, are we sure that is going to be a 50D
coming out in the near future? Many have speculated (including
myself) that the info on the 50D may in fact be just a smoke screen
for the new 5D. Inevitably there will be a 50D but Canon track
record is to incorporate the chip from the most recent rebel series
and that would be 12.2 and not the predicted 14-15. The other issue
is quality of the image. Sony brought out a 14 megapixel and it was
a bit of a bust. Certainly, Canon would not bring out a new cam
without making sure that the performance was as good as or better
then the competition.

Having viewed comparison images from the XSI/450, I was amazed that
the resolution was almost as good as the 5D. I have an XTI and I did
not believe it was worth the upgrade. At 12.2 the 50D might be worth
considering but I doubt it. At 14 with good noise control they might
have a serious contender. I am not a wealthy person. If I were, I
would buy all the new toys. I have to consider and compare the 50D
with the successor to the 5D. I prefer full frame, but that does not
mean I would eliminate a cropped sensor cam from the list if it
otherwise gave me the image quality that I so dearly love.

One of the main reason i got a 5D was to get the true field of view of my lenses so I will never give that up. Also I would take 13MP fullframe over 15MP crop any day!

As for the resolution my bet is that, just like the 15mp Pentax K20D, it won't even reach the resolving power of the 5D, not even under ideal studio conditions, let alone in real practice, under less then ideal lighting using lenses wide open or close to that.

I also predict a huge increase in "Is my L lens a bad copy, I've heard it was sharper" threads...

When was the last time you used your 24-70/2.8L on a 40D and felt, wow, this is a great allround-lens?

IQ IQ and IQ. Prints of 5D looks real and "film" like to compare with
40D and that is important to me.
Funny. One of the reasons I was so happy with DSLRs when they started coming out was that they DIDN'T look like real 35mm film with all its smudgy edges, muddy detail, and funky color responses.

That's really weird. I do not intend to offend you, but where you holding the camera properly. i.e. with the right hand on the grip and with the left hand under the lens actually carrying the weight (the left hand is not used just to turn the rings).

I use heavier equipment (the body being a 40D), and I find it never hard on my wrists.

To many, the 5D isn't a pro body either...
So going from a pro body to a semi pro body is an upgrade now? best
put both my 5D and 1Dmk3 on ebay then and get 2x 50D bodies, also if
you wana talk 50D use the correct forum please, this section is for
the Canon pro bodies.

Just a bit of pro body snobery there :0)
