How many 5D owners upgrading to 50D?

you may have forgotten it, but the 5D was based and is essentially a 20D with a FF.

pro bodies are the 1D series.

in Nikon camp, features belonging to pro bodies come already with the D300 and up.

You will get crispier landscapes and A LOT more reach!
But much, much less dynamic range (judging from 450D performance).

No, I'm not upgrading to either 50D, $3000 model, $2000 model or 40D FF model ;)
I will buy 18-200 IS if better than Nikkor.

In the meantime I'm waiting for high $$$ Nikkors to be realeased if wide prime (35mm) is sharp enough wide open for me Canon will loose money... again...

Best,
d

I mean the 1000D has more MP, so it has to be better right? :-0

Well, even though that was shot down. I like my 16-35 mk II & 24-70......I'd be buying 2 lenses along with the 50D if I wanted lenses with the same range.

I'm happy with the 5D...I'm sure the 50D will be a very nice camera though.

..if I still had an old 5D in the bag.

on the last time I used the 40D (mind you with the 24-105) I found it to be still too short, A good 300-500mm would make a real good allround lens. I guess it just goes too show what might be a good allround lens may not suit the next person....

Put a Canon to your head, You deserve it....

I'm sure the autofocus is better. I'm also sure the LCD will be much better, the response time is quicker, the shutter is quicker, etc etc.

Unfortunately none of those things show up in the final image and frankly my clients could care less how many bells and whistles my camera has. All they care about is the final image.

Fact of the matter is that a crop camera robs me of valuable bokeh and severely hampers some of my best lenses (50L, 135L). This does show up in the final image and makes a very real difference. Response time and LCD resolution do not.

I'm sure its a great camera for those satisfied with a 1.6x crop, but for me I'm waiting on the 5D successor.
If it does a better job, It's not even out yet and everyones knocking
it....

12.7 MP is plenty. 35mm is the only way to go. Typical lenses work better on FF. I have long lenses for reach.

Most 5D shooters didn't buy a full frame camera with the features of a cropped sensor 15 MP (?) body in mind. There are other significant issues besides the number of photosites that make FF a better choice for some shooters. (e.g. - the differences in DOF, the greater number of options in WA and UWA lenses, etc.)

Some might consider the cropped sensor body as a complement.

The concept of "full field of view of a lens" has always irked me. If you've used medium or large formats you get used to the fact that 35mm is normal on a APS-C, 50 for 35mm/FF, 80 for 6x6, 150 for 4x5...

Though in retrospect if you meant that you have a bunch of lenses from when you shot 35mm film and want to keep the same coverage, I completely respect that.

The big advantage a FF sensor has that everyone else forgets is that if you don't try to cram it with 20+ million pixels, it has VERY low noise. The larger the chip (assuming same number of pixels), the larger the photo sites, the more light each pixel can capture, the less noise in the final image. That's one of the reasons the 5D is still one of the best cameras on the market, even though it's getting very old by digital camera standards. If Canon decides to update the 5D I really hope they keep it around the same amount of pixels, and use what they've learned over the past couple years to make it a better camera and not just something with good marketing stats.

The 50D is not a full frame and won't give me that level of quality with the full frame advantage for wide angle. But I like the idea of more reach for my birding. Just remains to be seen if the focus ability will be anywhere near the 1dmk3. I'm more likely to wait for a pro body version of full frame before I sell my 5D to upgrade.

Bad comparison. Speed and functionality of 1DII blow away 1000D. However the reverse is true when you compare 5D to the rumored 50D.

Think upgrade in terms of increase of keepers and reduction of missed shots.
