People are always talking trash about this camera being better than that, this lens better than that, etc., etc.

Well time to stand up and take action!

This is a challenge for the best of the best. Post your pics in this thread, and what camera and/or lens you are representing.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's all the photographer, right? OK, you're invited too! Post your pics from various cameras and show us that the equipment is not make the photo.

Feel free to be a double, triple, or quadruple agent, representing multiple brands and camera types.

This, my friends, is war, and your goal is to win it.

Even war has rules, so terrorists need not participate here. What constitutes as "terrorist"? Someone who posts pics that are not their own. Play to win, but play fair. Some day, the war will end, and you'll want to be able to sleep well at night. : )

By the way, I'm looking for serious combatants, not wannabes! That is, don't step into the righ with a pansy 640x480 pic. When you come to a knife fight, bring a gun, when you're coming to a gun fight, bring a tank!

Bottom line: there will be winners, there will be losers. Think about which group you want to be in before posting your pics! : )

...but it could have been one of many very fast lenses on any cheap box. Just happens it was an 85 f/1.2 at 1.2 on a 5D. I love this portrait. I think it is my best. I think it is publishable. (ok..maybe I'm a bit infatuated with the young woman).

Almost snap shot in a bar, but not without awareness of the available light and telling her where to stand. The expression is her own though and if you knew her you would agree, I think, that it captures her personality.

And that's my sales pitch and I'm sticking to it. ;-)

I'm really happy with this shot using a 5D + 135mmL at f/2.0:

It's a wild Vervet monkey taken last week in South Africa.

This one has to be viewed at the original size

http://www.pbase.com/tommy2guns/image/68104658

and this one too

http://www.pbase.com/tommy2guns/image/60307268

and while this original is better

http://www.pbase.com/tommy2guns/image/46758849/original

here is the acceptable reduced size

but it really loses a lot of detail when is is reduced to this thumbnail

All shot with a Sigma SD10, Sigma 150/2.8 macro and Sigma EF500 Super flash in M mode using TTL at 1/250 @f8, handheld.

And I like your comment about a 640X480 image being like bring a knife to a gun fight.

But one comment I would add, and hope others follow suit.

My post processing consisted of converting RAW files using auto everything, and auto levels in PS, and minimal sharpening in some at 250%, .3, 33 levels.

While some folks think it is all the photographer, other folks think it is all the postprocessing.

SIGNATURE: This is a picture I did not take of a tall, greying man with crooked teeth whom I've encountered three times while photographing downtown, and each time, he's approached me quickly from the front, with a long stride, and each time he's leaned toward me and said the exact same thing 'Old One's Are Better' while palming his ancient brass Leica, opening his hand enough to show me what's there, but not enough really showing-off!' (An Unknown Leica Street Photographer)

Gary Jean,

your photos are stunning, specially the quality of the second one! I have a 5D too, with a 85mm, but not L serie...I'm really jealous!

BUT, in the joe mama's spirit, whose opinion is that quality does not depend "only" on the price of the camera, I won't show mine with a 5D but one shot with a very modest digicam nikon coolpix 8400 ISO100, last week without tripod... (more shots of TAQUI here: http://www.pbase.com/alain_lestrade/taqui_cat

Alain.
