An open CHALLENGE to everyone!

The puffin was shot on Skomer island off the west coast of Wales. There are three lenses used throughout these shots ranging from 14mm (equiv) to 583 mm. The puffins were from the 583mm lens combination (400 equiv + 1.4 multiplier).

And, by the way, thank you very much.

Gary,

Absolutely beautiful work.

Thanks,

a real artist doesn't need expensive and fancy equipment to get the job done. case in point:

People are always talking trash about this camera being better than
that, this lens better than that, etc., etc.

Well time to stand up and take action!

This is a challenge for the best of the best. Post your pics in
this thread, and what camera and/or lens you are representing.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's all the photographer, right? OK, you're
invited too! Post your pics from various cameras and show us that
the equipment is not make the photo.

Feel free to be a double, triple, or quadruple agent, representing
multiple brands and camera types.

This, my friends, is war, and your goal is to win it.

Even war has rules, so terrorists need not participate here. What
constitutes as "terrorist"? Someone who posts pics that are not
their own. Play to win, but play fair. Some day, the war will
end, and you'll want to be able to sleep well at night. : )

By the way, I'm looking for serious combatants, not wannabes! That
is, don't step into the righ with a pansy 640x480 pic. When you
come to a knife fight, bring a gun, when you're coming to a gun
fight, bring a tank!

Bottom line: there will be winners, there will be losers. Think
about which group you want to be in before posting your pics! : )

I'm happy to use a range of different cameras and am not going to clog up the site's bandwith with photos. Best is in the eye of the beholder and if it's technical sharpness and cleanness that floats your boat then that's what you'll go for. If it's LOMO style things then you'll opt for that. Photography should be enjoyed not over-analysed, and people really should get out and about more.

after looking all these WONDERFUL shots, I am simply overwhelmed with everyone's talent. I can tell I am firmly one of those "snapshot family" kind of people. I get much pleasure out of looking at all you guy's pictures, even if I'll never be in that league!

Love this thread. Becky

I was kind of thinking of being the host, not a participant. : ) Also, I'm hoping that lots of great pics get posted, so I'm trying not to reply to messages so as to not take up posts in this thread.
and who is the Judge, you?
Just one of many. The others are everyone else viewing this thread. I was just hoping to see a bunch of pics from the best of the best from all the different brands and types of cameras. People argue so much about how much better A is than B, well, it should be a slam dunk, then, to see it in this thread, right?

Nonetheless, winning or losing are unimportant as long as you did your best. Winning is better, of course, but only when you were challenged. To win without effort is a hollow vicotry. Still, if I played my best, I don't mind losing to a superior opponent. That's how you grow.

So, this thread is all about people doing their best. Some will see others' pics and strive to do better, others will be happy where they are. But hopefully, all will enjoy seeing what others consider their best.

Anyway, most of my photography is of people, and a lot of it's pretty well known, so I'll not post any of those here, since that list of pics would dwarf what I've posted below. Instead, here are a "few" of my all time non-people favorites. I hope you enjoy them.

those are ok.

but let's take that first one though. real cliche'. we see that kind of stuff over and over. it's just so tired.

when it comes to rock formations, let's kick it up a notch...take it to the next level.

what do you say?
