Found the perfect paper for HP!!!!!!!!!

This is an interesting problem, but since I don't print from QImage or ZoomBrower I don't think I can help. Does the same thing happen when you print from the HP printing software?

Doug
This thread is interesting adn I hope helpful. I have an HP 970
printer on a W98SE system printing from QImage and ZoomBrowser. The
flesh tones in my prints seems to have a very noticeable and
unacceptable fine grained, powdery look on many of the various
papers which I have tried - Epson, Epson Premium, Office Depot,
Offiice Depot Pro, HP photo glossy..... . I tried increasing the
saturation, ink volume and so on but while this may help a little
it makes the rest of the images too saturated. I also tried turning
on (and off) the auto photo enhancement. I recently installed the
latest printer driver. Am I alone with this problem?? Any
suggestions.

Thanks

Doug,

The HP printing softwar, is it part of PS1100 or independent of PS1100?

If independent of PS1100, can you tell me how I may acquire it?

Thanks,

Val
Let me clear something up. I never printed from Photoshop to my
old Photosmart printer. I went and bought the P1100 as it was
getting hard to find cartridges for the old printer. I found out
about the slight difference in Photoshop printing and the HP
printing software when I compared two prints made on the P1100.
Also its been so long since I've printed anything out on the old
Photosmart I can't remember what any of the settings were/are set
for. Sorry for the lack of help.

Doug
Doug,

Your response is very helpful. When you print from PhotoShop on
your old PhotoSmart printer what checkmarks you put on the
PhotoShop side and on the PhotoSmart driver side?

Val

Doug, Dan, or Anyone,

I am getting horizontal skid marks (no ink) across all prints on my 3 year old PhotoSmart Photo printer. Is this due to the print head misalignment, worn out cartridge or the cartridge rubbing too hard? Your response will be greatly appreciated.

Val

My printer (HP Designjet 10 Ps) is Postscript. I have to make a color test wich every paper that is not HP(this ones have already ICC profiles). The printer print a sheet with color profiles...scans it and get the best ICC profile for the paper. Anyways Kodak Ultima works perfect with the HP Premium Photo profile. Until now great. I just bought Kodak Premium Picture paper. I have not tried yet this. This printer really makes true photos. It's very far from anything I have seen until now. Even Epson Photo 1280 is far away. The Sad thing about this printer are the scratches it does on the paper. If it was not this.....THIS PRINTER WOULD BE A 10.

Cristian
When using Kodak Ultima on HP PhotoSmart what paper setting do you
recommend?

Val

Can anyone tell me what the HP DesignJet 10PS is? I am starting to hear about it and cannot find where I can purchase one.
I have an HP designjet 10 PS. I tried 4 paper until now. Here are
my results:

HP Premium Photo Paper: Great photos but too thin for me

Kodak Ultima: Amazing. They are perfectly suited for HP. Very thick
paper with awesome quality. By far the best

Epson Premium Glossy Photo Paper: Bad...really bad. Colors don´t
match at all. The ink doesn´t get into the paper. Blacks are dirty
with no smoth gradiations. On the other hand its the best paper for
my Epson Stylus Photo 750

Ilford Heavy weight glossy paper: Again very bad with HP and really
good with epson.
  • I have not tried HP Premiun Plus yet.

Val,

The HP printing software came with the P1100. I don't know if you can get it seperately. A call to HP should help you find out.

This could be the cut marks (streaks) that sometimes occurs with some papers. I could also be a cartridge this is going bad. Try a different paper, then a new cartridge and see if it goes away. Anybody else have some tips?

Honu,

The horizontal skid marks are across the whole page and not in any particular spot.

The cartridges are getting old, they are probably good for 10 to 15 full size more prints. I will change them and see if the problem persists.

Do you know if they have something for the Epson 870?
After spending over a year testing papers on the HP, i found the
perfect paper for the high-gloss film like look that HP papers
never quite achieved. Went to Circuit City and picked up a pack of
Pictoro High Gloss Film 4 x 6 paper, 15 sheets for $6.

Results of the paper compared to HP Premium Plus

1) Color is much more natural, compared the colors to the original
image on a calibrated monitor and colors look perfect.

2) Dithering is alot less aparent

3) Gloss is the same as lab prints, side by side to a 35mm print,
the pictures look the same.

4) Smear resistant right out of the printer.

5) Just as sharp as HP paper

I printed these on a photosmart 100, and a 932c. On the 100 i used
the compact flash card slot and printed right from the printer, on
the 932c i printed from PhotoShop (trail 1) and HP Photosmart
Printing (trail 2).

I tell you this brings a whole new excitement level to HP printing.
The one thing i have always been jealous about my friends Epson is
the fact that prints looked just like 35mm lab (because of the high
gloss)...now the exact same thing is achievable on the HP. Please
let me know how your results are

AGREED! Wooo Hooo! Finally HP 9xx and Photosmart printers can now achieve the ultra high gloss look of real 35mm prints with the Pictorico Pro High Gloss White Film. I just picked some of today at Adorama in NYC. It's much pricier than others - but if you are in search of the holy grail of HP ultragloss paper, it's worth the extra bucks. Trust me on this. I, like Dan have been testing every paper on the market for nearly a year now, and nothing comes close to this. It simply will blow you away. I echo Dan's comments below. Razor sharp images, exact natural color, ultra high gloss and best of all, it retains blacks that are dark and comparable to HP's own papers, something other papers simply could not reproduce. I couldn't be happier.

I've been using TDK Reference papers since getting my 1220, and I'm very happy with the output. Has anyone else tried these papers? I'm just interested in hearing if anyone else has tried TDK yet.

Thanks,

Cristian,

Re your design Jet 10PS have you had any:

Experience w/ borderless printing?

Experience w/ 13x19 , longer panoramas

I am looking at the 10PS and would appreciate any experience.

Currently using an HP 990cse -- want the wider format -- wider colour pallette.

Henri, which Ilford paper did you try? I use the Gallerie Classic
Pearl with my HP 1220 and the results are very good.

Andy : I think that Ilford uses different names in Europe (Belgium) - I've never seen the Gallerie Classic Pearl over here - the one Itried was called Ilford Printasia Photo Glossy Paper - 238 g/sqmeter; especially the blacks seem to stay on the surface

Good to hear about the Pictorico paper on the hp. I found the olmec White Satin (ICI PAPER) to be incredibly good as well..much better than the hp prem glossy. Have not tried the Pictorico on my hp 1000 but will soon and post my opninion.

For those that have an hp Photosmart Pxxx I would highly reccom. the OLMEC White satin. Looks like a real high class photo and the ink does not "ride on top" of the paper.
