Where does it stop? Where do you draw the line?

The limit has to be set somewhere and currently it's set at 153600 bytes. It's my opinion that a file of 153601, one byte over 150k, is unacceptable and should be moved to pending.

Firstly I totally accept and agree that rules are rules, and I will change the size when I get home from work, but since in some previous challenges the issue never even came up I was inquiring in good faith. But please so that I understand in the future, could you explain how 150.8 KB (just an example) translates into 154,800 or 156,800 bytes? I just assumed that 150.8KB is 150,800 bytes? I promise I am not being argumentive, I really am curious.

in binary terms - where we only have two digits, 0 and 1 - 1k equals 1024.

I've just seen this and will fix mine. It's not as easy at it sounds though. Export for web doesn't preserve EXIF, does it? So, if you want to preserve EXIF, you have to do trial and error, resaving at different compression levels and uploading to see how much space it takes up. Is there a simpler way? I am always disappointed not to be able to get the EXIF info on images, so I never use the otherwise excellent save for web feature on photoshop.

I had to reduce the JPEG setting from 5 (medium) to 4 (low). Now they look nastier, but they come in under the magic number. The 150kb limit really militates against pictures with a lot of detail, if you want to do other people the courtesy of including the EXIF info. I did try the save for web function on Photoshop and was able to get higher quality with less size, but that stripped the EXIF. Does anyone know if there's a way to preserve the EXIF with the save for web feature?

Alister, here's a trick I use when size and quality are critical.

First, I upload an image with the EXIF data. PBase captures that and tables it somewhere. It's forever associated with that image.

Second, I replace my first upload with a "save for web" image. Yes, that image does not have the EXIF data but PBase still has it tabled somewhere. When you look at the image on line you're seeing the Save for Web image and the EXIF data is there.

If you reverse the process, upload Save for web first followed by a Save version it will never have EXIF data even though the second upload had it. First upload EXIF rules.
